I'm just finishing the install of a 2.7 3RZ-FE long block in my 99 Tacoma 4x4 truck and the battery cable sparks when I try to connect it. I'm worried something is wrong. I did my best and took my time to hookup everything right. There was a lot of wires to hook back up. Everything pretty much had it's own type of electrical connector so I felt comfortable with the connections I made.

I'm afraid that if put the battery cable back on, I might burn something out.

Can someone tell me if it is normal to have a little spark when hooking the battery up? I have the key out of the ignition also.

There is one wire attachment I haven't figure out where it goes and I could use some help if someone know. I will include a picture if I can. It is in the same part of the wiring harness as the A/C Compressor Plug.

Please help if you can! Thanks!

No. The Hot is hooked up first then the ground. Is that a problem?

Do you know if the wire hookup in the above picture goes to ground?

That looks like one of the grounding straps that attaches to the body panels.

Close the doors and try again. Interior lights can do it. You have an electrical draw that will take your battery down overnight. Not normal.

No problem, hot first is correct.

From what I have read on the net, it appears that some spark is normal. Radios and other devices store a charge. When they are discharged over a time, it causes a spark when the battery cable is hooked up. I'm going to hook it up and see.

Everything seems fine. I haven't actually got the engine started yet.
I also figured out the wires in the picture go grounded to the coil mounting plate.
I may have to start a thread about getting the engine to start! Thanks so much!

That picture looks like the ground that goes on behind your coil packs
