Hi, looking to replace the brakes and rotors on my stock 2017 tacoma. I searched around but was finding threads for brake upgrades for trucks with larger/heavier wheels/tires. I just need a good set of replacements for a stock sized wheel/tire non-lifted truck, something that won't break the bank but will be good quality. Any recommendations?

I got a complete set of Callahan front rotors and pads for $150. They've actually lasted longer than the OEM did.

nice thanks! I see this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/FRONT-Premium-Brake-Rotors-Ceramic/dp/B01N9MZEI5

amazon has a note at top that says it will fit a 2017 taco, but the title by the seller doesn't mention tacoma's, and it's my undertanding that 4runners use larger rotors?

I clicked on that link, and it says that's what I purchased in 2021. I have a 2017 tacoma.

If you havent' already--check out this thread. Has links to AMAZING (and short too!) videos he did about maintaining your third gen (including brake replacement--both front and rear).

I went with PowerStop because I had a braking vibration with my OEM brakes. Very happy with PowerStop.

the best bang for the buck is the Tacoma Big brake upgrade using GX470/ T4R caliper rotor pads

My pulsating vibration was when braking from about 50mph to 35mph. I normally like to stay with OEM, but went aftermarket because of the vibration that appeared at 40K miles on my factory brakes.

I have 15K miles on my PowerStop brakes and still happy with them.

This is the way. Would recommend the Z36 Extreme's to anyone looking for a serious upgrade. Fantastic bite, long lasting and almost no dust whatsoever.

I wonder if you can then do what us GX470 guys do for an upgrade and go to the 460 brakes.

Id be willing to try. I was going to do this on my 3rd Gen, but found a brand new set of rotors for my old Lexus sedan buried in my warehouse. Took them to autozone and swapped them for a cheap brake job. the new Calipers will have to wait

My OEM rotors went into the trash at 43K miles. Thats when I couldn't take the shaking/vibration when braking at highway speeds anymore. Seems to be a common issue with this gen - I see a lot of us with the same problem at approx the same mileage. o_O

I recently ordered oem pads and rotors. They aren't gone yet, but at 100k miles they are getting low. I haven't experienced pulsing or vibrations which is interesting since I've chased those issues on previous vehicles.
Looking back over 30+ years of driving and numerous brake jobs maybe I'm driving this truck slower and easier than all my previous cars.

Great timing as I need new rotors as well... This kit looks good - I assume that the pads work directly with the stock OEM calipers?

    Thanks!
