Ball joint replacement time?

It's toast. Added a poll.

So what do you say TW ? I think I might be on borrowed time. I've been hearing and feeling some popping in the front end. Looks like the boot is bad anyways.
So the debate is , new oem or bite the bullet and send in for the rebuildables with the rod end?

I don't think there's supposed to be any vertical movement.

if you dont know when was the last time they were changed, id changed them immediately w/ oem only. If youre gonna lift just save the money and get uca

 

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have stated They are about 3 or 4 years old. Toyota oem.
But they have been abused pretty good the last couple of years.
I have a aftermarket upper control arm.

Not in my tool set but thanks for the link I was looking for it.

 

The spec is 0.5mm of vertical deflection with 66 lbs of force applied to the wheel studs…you can literally see 2+ mm of movement in the video.

OP needs ball joints, not a dial indicator.

Looks sketchy to me. I saw movement as well. I would replace them.

 

That looks like way too much movement.

I swapped mine and it didn't even have half of what you show here.

It's really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things and takes about 30 minutes per side.

If you're questioning them, why not just replace them with new OEM ball joints?

The uniball lower ball joints has been talked about and worked on for some time now; surprised no one has posted about having used them.

 

I mean, if James wanted to sell his solos I’d consider it, just for fun
