BAKFlip MX4 Tonneau Cover Installed

I just installed a BAKFlip MX4 Tonneau cover on my 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR Access Cab 2.7 4x4. Install was not had took about an hour and a half total, the BAK rail system reuses the tie down rails so you don't lose them. The tie down rails are moved down about 1 1/2 inches. I have now owned four BAKFlip MX4 Tonneau covers and have had good experiences with each of them.

I like how the BAKFlip MX4 sits flush with the bed rails. Because I have an access cab with the long bed this tonneau cover has four panels instead of the three panels the short beds have.

I recommend the BAKFlip MX4 covers because of the quality of them and the ease of installation. I did one thing different on the install, instead of running water drain hoses through the bottom of the bed I drilled the holes in the side and ran the hoses through the side and down. I have the OEM rubber bed mat and if you run the hoses do the floor and drill out the factory drain hole you will have to also drill or notch the rubber bed mat.

and when folded up, does it lock up?

 

It has clips to secure it folded until the last panel. If you have it fully folded you can lock it up with what look like struts. But they aren’t, it’s a rod that goes in and then you tighten to keep it secure

 

I have the same BAKFlip as you being installed in 2 weeks. Not doing it myself only cause I don’t want to. With that said I wonder if you could show me a pic of where you put your drain hose. I don’t really want to deal with the bed mat.
I seen your post right after I ordered mine and watched an install Vedic. Could have done it my self but! Don’t feel like it. Although I was thinking of telling then not to drill the drain hoses and I will route them myself.

some people, myself included, got a barbed hose adaptor at like lowes that fits like perfectly down the drain holes already in the bed. I drilled a hole in my bed mat and it keeps the drains from moving. The hole needed to fit it is really small

 

I understand what you are referring to. Plumber by trade. That would work. I was just curious as to how the OP did his.

why not lol. Measure twice. Drill once. I would defiantly check what’s on the other side. I’ve had electricians drill thru my water lines cause they don’t check the other side of the juice.

If you use the drain holes already in the bed for the drain tubes coming from the tonneau cover; then, if water happens to get into the bed will that prevent it from draining out? Or do the tonneau cover drain tubes do a good job keeping water out of the bed?

 

I never had an issue with water that got into the bed not draining from when I had the cover

 

Best looking cover hands down, congrats. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on one. Mind saying what you paid for it?
