I've gone through 2 of the BakFlip Revolver x2 tonneau covers (as in, worn out) on my 2016 and I'm looking for a replacement. I haven't been happy with the quality as each has had problems within the first couple years. First was replaced under warranty but this one is no longer covered under warranty so I'm going away from the rollup style and I'm thinking of going with the BakFlip MX4 tri-fold.

Anyone have one of these for more than a couple of years? Any issues or problems with quality? If you were to go back, would you buy it again?

I'm not as far along in time of ownership but as a truck owner you never stop looking for changes that you can convince yourself would be some improvement in experience. I love my MX4. Installed it myself. But after the install you are asked if you can "guarantee" waterproof so you go and buy a waterproof bag. Then the bag use becomes a headache to insert luggage in so you begin to look at bed caps. It never ends. Maybe that is a good thing.

I did not put the tubes in to redirect water from rails. Was not going to drill or increase hole size in bed liner (factory). I am not bothered personally with a little water. Appeasing passengers.

My Taco is a 2021 SR5. I debated getting the 4Runner but choose differently suggesting to myself "that's $10K more". With the MX4 plus rubber bed mat plus the potential for another big addition (bed cap) that comes close I would bet to $ of $10K. Humans are illogical with their $.

    Yep
I put a Back Flip hard cover on my last Tacoma. It was a 2001, so the rails and set up were more manual. Overall though, I really liked the hard cover and the low profile. It did let in a little rain water, but I would guess that the new versions are better fort that.

I'm between the Lomax/mx4/X4s myself with the Lomax in the lead by a hair die to price and good reviews on watertightness. Also super easy bed removal.

4 years in January. Still going strong. Some scratches and a spill of polish the finish doesn't like. No hinge issues. Does leak a bit from day one but nothing i am concerned about. Does the job I want it to do.20211110_080054.jpg

Some scratches that have developed over the years. 20211110_080101.jpg 20211110_080112.jpg

This is the inside after a pretty good rain last night.

The seal is a little flatter but still holding up decently. 20211110_080142.jpg

I have a Revolver X4. I got the X4 because I read the finish on the X2 wasn't as robust. Looks good almost 2 years later. Can take a pic later if you want it. I did have the latch mechanism replaced under warranty, as it snapped very early into ownership. I also have been unimpressed with the clips for the roller straps. They pop out way too easily.

My brother had a bakflip on his 2015 for around 100,000 miles before he got a shell and loved it. Sold it for $750 when he got the shell.

    Bakflip MX4 3 years now

It leaks a bit from day 1 , but I also didn't care and put 0 effort into trying to seal it up ... not sure if that's important to you but worth a mention.

Still looks great , still works great , always get compliments on it.

Id buy another one if and when this one wears out.

Have had my MX4 for about a month and I park in the garage and have barely driven it. SO, it has done its job protecting the bed and allowed me to set stuff on top of it while im in the garage messing around with crap. All in all its working lol

Had an MX4 for two years. It was great, kept stuff in the bed secure. But, I could never get the damn thing to stop leaking. Ended up selling it after 2 years to get something more water tight.

I've had mine for just over two years. Bed is clean and secure. I was able to seal mine at the tailgate with a little weather stripping. It has not faded or stained. Overall, I like it much better than the stock tonneau that warped and split inside of year.

My boss has had a backflip folding tonneau on his Tundra for about 6 years.....still works well, but he hasn't used the cleaner/protectant as often as he should have and it's faded quite a bit.

I had mine for 3 weeks and returned it. In my opnion it's not worth the money for whats provided. Fit issues, trimming required, rubber uneven/ not straight. I felt the Diamondback cover was far superior.

Damn, mine is the exact opposite. Fit well, went on easy, no trimming needed. I wonder if you got a lemon??

I have one on my truck. Purchased new and installed it myself. It did come with the drain tube and so far, they worked really well with all the Washington rainstorms.
As far as the rubber weather stripping, I used some shin-etsu silicone grease on them and it keeps them from cracking/forming. (Learned this from Jeep ownership, it keeps the rubber soft).
Overall it serves the purpose for what I intended it to be used for and it looks good.

Just curious, where did you drill the holes for the drain tubes?

The directions call for them to go in the corners of the floor. If you look at my bed picture above, you will see I put them right in the corner just ahead of the tie downs. I felt this was more out of the way. If you decide to do this, be very careful, the fuel neck is on the drivers side and you don't want to drill in to it.

I have the long bed so the tube would have to go a bit further to reach the bed corner. Thinking of drilling into the side or front panel between the cab and bed instead.

Mine has small drainage holes already, so all I did was buy an adapter. I’ll try to get a pic for you sometime this week, if I remember.
