Leading up to buying my 2021 Tacoma I had mixed feelings about the production shift to Mexico for possible QC issues, but was optimistic about having a vehicle made in a brand new state of the art plant. When I got the truck I was surprised to look at the door sticker and see it made in Baja. I have read through the forums comparing Baja, Mexico made Tacoma’s to Texas, USA made and all said many owners have had great vehicles from both plants if not possibly less problems from their Baja Tacoma’s. For this thread I’d like to know how many other people have had new trucks made from the older Baja plant vs the newer Guanajuato plant and possibly see if there’s any differences or issues popping up at one plant vs another. I’d imagine there’s probably more experienced employees working for Toyota at the Baja plant which has been making Tacoma’s for a long time, but the benefit of new technology and assembly production would likely go towards Guanajuato. My truck has been great so far, everything seems well made and put together. I previously had an 08 Tacoma from Texas that was also great. Let me know where yours are from!

Made in Baja, very happy with quality. Only knock I have is drive door wind noise/leak at highway speeds. Hoping dealer will remedy but we'll see.

No matter which country or plant your Toyota is made you can count on it being one of the most dependable.

If I was to say which plant is best though….. it would be Yoshiwara plant in Toyota City, Japan. The plant that manufactures Land Cruisers and Lexus LX. No Tacomas are made there though.

I have to say I agree. We bought my wife’s 2020 4Runner last year which is made in Japan and that thing is so freakin nice. I feel like it’s on another level.

I’ve got a Guanajuato 2021. Only problems with mine is a stiff front passenger door latch and a defective QI charger (the rubber surface bubbled up). Going to have the dealer look into both. Mechanically, everything is great.

This is the point in the production video, regardless of Japan, USA, Canada, or Mexico production, where Toyota should send Larry, or Juan, or Ichiro out with a rattle-can to hit the frame with another coat or two.

Simplest form it’s called lean manufacturing and should have little to no variation wherever said product is produced. I’m no expert in that science though.

Baja plant on this Tacoma. Other Tacoma’s I’ve had I have no idea and never really even thought about it until landing here on TW.

My 2020 was build in Baja. So far no issues or complaints. Of Course it's my first brand new vehicle after many used cars so the bar isn't as high with others
