That makes a lot of sense. I think having ditch lights that function as SPOT in amber are what I'm looking for. I use my ditch lights as ditch lights as it sounds like you do. I have a snorkel so I am limited on size/space.

I have the S2 Sports on my rear bumper and love them. I have those in white light.

Are the S2s available in amber spot?

edit: looks like they are. S2 pro in amber spot might be what you’re looking for then

@Baja Designs can you elaborate on the XL80 versus LP4...trying to decide if I want to keep my XL80's and mount them on my front bumper with a pair of LP9's or if I should sell them and get some LP4's instead...

I'll be grabbing an Onx6+ 40" spot bar soon, so that will be for the distance lighting.

    oh, and some photoshops :anonymous:

    what should I do...

    LP9's only

I'm thinking that the 2x LP9's where they are further apart look the best...if that was the case I'd sell my XL80's and buy another set of Squadron Pro's for the ditch lights, and use the extra money to help fund the LP9's...

I'm not BD, but I'll toss my .02 in here for you. I don't think that you will like the LP4s mounted in the ditch light location. That edge lighting that the LP series offers will throw quite a bit of light across your hood which is less than desirable. You'll want the LP lights mounted as far forward as possible as they have a pretty sharp angle outward.

What is making you think to migrate away from the XL80 on the ditch lights? They're a powerhouse in that location. Maybe go to a combo LP9 up front (in combo pattern), and convert the XL80s to a spot lens and point them more outward for excellent true ditch lighting with minimal glare. I think that you might be able to get a shop to further reinforce that mount so that you don't get as much wobble either.

I'd like to hear from BD about the differences between the LP4 and XL80's though...not much info out there for the LP4's since they are so new.

did you even look at the pics :boink:

I would put the LP4's beside the LP9's in the middle of the bumper.

My main complaint with the XL80's in the "ditch" location is that vibrate like a motherfucker going down the road...it's super annoying, and since no one makes a cowl mounted ditch bracket, I either have to live with it, or get some lighter lights in that location.

I did... And somehow breezed over the options you were truly considering. My bad!

I also fall into the camp that vibration is a BITCH. I hate it.

I think it's just inherent in the ditch light design that it's going to have wobble. It's basically a U tipped on it's side and all the weight on one tip, unsupported from underneath. Even cowl mounted will face that issue. You could get some custom ones made from 1/4" to combat that, which wouldn't be hard for even a hobby welder to make. Or just go smaller.

I'm not sure that reinforcing the brackets would make a difference either...I can legitimately see my hood shaking and whatnot going down bumpy roads...it's a design flaw from Toyota where the front of the frame just isn't reinforced enough...I can see my bumper shaking as well...sucks...

wouldn't it be better to go with a wide cornering pattern if pointing outward? In my mind I would think that going with a spot beam, since it's so narrow, would not be very good at lighting up the "ditch" zone.

finding brackets that work with the XL's and the snorkel took me three tries...Caliraised, nope...CBI, hella nope...Relentless Fab, check

I could have Eddy at SOS copy these relentless brackets in 1/4"...probably would still vibrate though, it's just an inherent flaw like you stated.

Yeah, it would help but I don't know if it would totally fix it. Just bolt them straight into your hood, problem solved lol

Hood still vibrates though...I think the bumper and winch hanging off the front of the truck is probably making it worse towards the cowl...I need to get my reinforcement plates welded in. I just hate taking the bumper on and off by myself, it's close to 220lbs with the winch.

Put the front of the truck on a slight incline, it helps. That way you can lift the bumper on and it'll rest on the studs by itself. That's what I do anyways.

Great question! The LP4 features a few different LEDs.

    (1) XP-L High Intensity: dome-less LED providing a dedicated distance
    (1) XP-L: providing mid field and distance
    (2) XHP50: providing near and mid field light

The IPT LEDs consist of (4) XPG3 LEDs, 2 per side.

With all these LEDs combined, it provides an exceptionally smooth blend of light that covers your near, mid, and long field vision. The biggest advantage of the LP4 is the 200 degree spread. But like mentioned above, you wouldn't want this on an A-pillar location. It would essentially throw glare in the cab resulting in the driver being blinded. The best mounting location would be on the front bumper.

What are you lacking with your current setup? Do you need more distance, near field vision, wider spread? Are you outrunning the lights? Let me know and I can make a better recommendation. :)
