In case anyone is wondering , you can fit 30+ bags of mulch in the (short) bed and still close the tailgate. I’m pretty sure I could have gotten 10 or so more bags.

I had googled prior to my Home Depot trip and didn’t see anything on here. So FYI

I did the same thing with winter grass in the fall. Granted this was soil not mulch.

    About 20lb per bag.

600lb. Assume driver is 200 lb.

Payload is over 1k so should be fine. Mulch is light.

I’ll be honest I was surprised too but then remembered mulch was light.

30 bags of rock are much heavier, of course that would be well in excess of the approved weight capacity of the vehicle so I wouldn't recommend it.IMG_20200328_112346_01.jpg

[Edit, is there an official phrase for work on the house during our stay-at-home time]

From someone who just hauled 30 bags of mulch home this week, I can say that it weighs more than 20 lbs a bag. Now I need to go weigh a bag and see what the actual is but unfortunately they are at the house I am building to sell.

I think that you are actually right because I hauled 30 home this week and it felt like it was on the rubber blocks

Too bad you don't have a bulk sales place in your area. That much mulch dropped in your bed would be about 1/2 the cost of those bags...........

Question: if y'all are needing more than 10-15 bags at the orange box store, why not go to a landscaper's supply and buy by the 1/2 yard?

I always found it way cheaper for better quality mulch...

I can say, our landscape places are closed, but 'home desperate' is still going strong (with limited hours).

I had 40 land scaping pavers @27 lbs a piece in my truck last week, it sat pretty much level.

I get my annual 4 yards of mulch delivered.

The ease of bags is worth it. Sure, you’ll pay less getting it in bulk but we’re not talking a lot of money, $20, $30, $40 depending how much you need.

When you have a hulking son, you tell him to carry a bag here, here and there. A utility knife and a dump, spread by hand or rake and you’re done. No clean up of the mulch you dropped filling the barrow or on the way to the spot, the mulch that spilled in the driveway or the truck bed, especially the stuff that gets caked between the bed and tailgate. Faster and easier is worth the price difference.
