so did a search and found people have been taking apart their control box or mounting the control box in the engine bay or cab.

I have an ARB bumper and Badland winch. The control box is huge and wondered what other have done to properly mount the control box so that I can plug in the controls.

I really don’t want to mount it on the outside of the bumper.

If you have pictures of your set up please share.

    Thansk!

Well just where would you like to install it ??

When you say big just how big ??

your limited by where it will physically fit .

just a matter of making longer cables .

Everyone has different ideas just what will work best for them.

I wouldn't mount it IN the cab - there's no reason to. The line should be long enough for the controller to reach inside anyway.

There's an entire thread dedicated to winches, if not in the 1st gen forum, it's in the offroad forum, I don't remember which (search for it). Just look through there for ideas.

I would avoid doing too many "permanent" modifications to your truck, just to fit that control box. The Badlands aren't exactly the most reliable winches on the market, so you may end up going with another winch down the road anyway...

Look into a wireless remote for the winch. Gives you more options on where you bury the solenoid box. Not too hard to install. You can get a aftermarket one for under $35.00 delivered.

As long as it has a wired backup, wireless is pretty cool for sure.

Ok sounds like I’ll mount it in the engine bay after looking into to it.

I put one on a 1st gen with an ARB bumper and put the box next to the abs dist block. Its not exactly mounted nice but it works fine. Just make sure you cover the wire connections VERY good... Also had to cut the radiator support a little to fit the actual winch in the bumper... That winch is money though...

    Thank you.
I ended up cutting the middle support bracket as well and I didn't have to relocate. The badlands winch I installed fit in the bumper, I just had to trim the grille a little. Glad to hear that winch is a good choice

So I accidentally broke one of the clips holding the grille. So the final step was to zip tie that last piece after all was said and done. Taking it off if I have to is a problem for future me lol. So I can't take close up detailed pictures, I will try tomorrow though.
The thin sheet metal bar going across the width behind the grill, I disassembled and removed. I then cut off the small bracket that holds the bottom of the grille. This solved the relocation problem because I then had overhead clearance for the top of the winch. I installed this on a BAMF hybrid bumper. Which had just enough room to fit the whole winch without relocation. The next problem was the grille. I traced the bottom and slowly started trimming little by little to make room for it to rest on top of the winch itself. I just took my time and took small pieces at a time, so now its a very tight fit.
