Yes, the oil cooler can fail and cause the listed symptoms. The oil cooler is an oil to engine coolant heat exchanger unit. When these fail, oil and coolant end up where they don’t belong… since the oil is usually under greater pressure than the cooling system, most of the flow is from the oil system into the cooling system, which is why the oil level dropped so quickly. The coolant overflow tank probably has some nice goo inside.

From what I read she checked the level at work, it was fine despite there being a leak. Drove it home Friday night to get it home at least. Didn’t drive it til Monday morning, went to drive it but before leaving checked the oil to find it very low. So it could have lost a bunch on the drive home from work Friday. But I’d think that would still be dripping something on the driveway from Friday night to Monday morning.

the part I really don’t understand is that driving it home Friday had no weird noises or behavior or anything. Nothing to indicate any trouble whatsoever (besides the initial low oil level warning Friday morning). Then after finding the oil actually low Monday morning, they tow it to the dealer and the dealer finds out that all of a sudden the engine is “done”? What changed between Friday where it ran perfectly fine to Monday being the engine is blown, yet gave no oil pressure warnings or noises or anything on the Friday drive home? Makes absolutely no sense.

Not sure if it applied to the 18's but there were issues with the timing chain cover not sealing correctly at assembly with the 16's. Steady oil leak with no burning...

Yikes, would've thought they had fixed it by then.

It seems to be less often in the later years, like 2019 or so and later. Overall it’s probably a small percentage of total trucks but I still see it pop up more than I feel like it should. But oh well. We don’t know the stats. It’s usually barely a leak though if it leaks at the timing cover. More like a seep.

Yep, it actually happened to mine. Very slow leak but had Toyota pay for half. Oil level never dropped out of range but very strange. Heard from Toyota that they mated the two pieces a little too quickly and not at the right temps and it just smeared the sealant instead of a nice gasket. Read OP's post and briefly thought of this..

I too have a dealer offered lifetime power training warranty. They do exist just doesn't seem like a common thing.

I agree if it lost most of the oil on the way home, it would very likely still be dripping,,,,, heavily, as the underside of the truck would be coated.
I had Krown spray done two weeks ago,,,, still dripping everywhere I park today. Maybe not a tall accurate comparison.
I also agree, it would probably be making knocking noises and also I’d think smoking like a coal fed locomotive.
