Bad Fuel Injector - Looking for replacement, missing rubber?

Hi all,

Have a bad injector on my 1998 2.7l 4-cylinder and have started looking for a good OEM replacement. One thing has me puzzled though, I pulled out all 4 injectors and they all look like this:



And so far all the OEM replacements I've seen look like this:

Notice the extra larger rubber down by the nozzle. Is there something I'm missing? I feel like it's super unlikely all 4 of my injectors are missing this rubber by the nozzle, but none of them have it. Or am I not looking at the correct replacement?

Taking a closer look at where the injectors sat there are these black grommet-looking seats? They are all super hard like plastic though and not rubbery...Some have chips in them. I'm guessing these have never been changed before. No idea how I would get them out without pieces falling into the engine. No sign of the bottom rubbers of the fuel injectors.

EDIT: Looks like they are supposed to be plastic and are referred to as "Insulators" and most people are saying not to mess with them...So I'll just pass on that and go back to the original question of why my injectors don't seem to have the bottom rubber.

Only one injector was leaking, however, and I used a multimeter to confirm it has a different resistance reading than the other three. But now I'm wondering if I should buy that rubber end for all the injectors.

I did see this video but it gave me more questions than answers haha, when he pulls out his injectors around the 25:30 mark they have a small o-ring on the bottom, but I know that's the 5VFE and not my 3RZFE engine so wondered if the injectors are differen't.

 

Different fuel flow rate is all.

 

Do you think the NAPA one would be compatible with the rest of my injectors?

1 new non OEM Echlin fuel injector and 3 old OEM DENSO injectors ?
Nope.
Have your old injectors rebuilt or replace all 4 with rebuilt or new DENSO fuel injectors.
Replace all seals, insulators and crush washers with NEW.
Tim's video is self explanatory.

 

I'm looking at a thousand different results on google for "1998 2.7L Tacoma Fuel Injectors" and when I go to LCE Engineering to look up their servicing options it says "3RZ Blue Style" but mine are brown? Are these brown injectors I have not old Denso stock? I just need to find out what an exact replacement would be or how to service and everything I've googled just doesn't match.

Throw in a set of Denso Pink tops. They were the upgrades to the Brown Tops starting in 2001 or so. I have bought 2 sets for around 35 bucks on eBay one set for a 2RZ and one for a 3RZ. The seats come out fairly easily with a straight pick. I had 2 of mine say inside the insulator when I pulled them. I'd stick the old ones back in, clean the area better using some wd 40, followed by some brake clean and then some compressed air. Have a shop vac handy to clean out any remaining debris. You can also add a little suction to the injector hole if any dirt or seat material falls in. Just take your time and don' get in a hurry.

You have after market injectors ( generic ).....

here are the real denso ones......these pinks is what my factory 98 came with......

dont use fakes....they dont last......they can drip on piston head when parked hot ......pit and ruin it.....

the fakes spray out of two holes.......the denson spray thru many fine little holes.....
and may neeed service faster than fakes.......

Looks like on the new ones they changed the bottom bushing into an all new one piece design........

 

And those gaskets must still be there down in the cups.....
got to take a pick and get em out......

without those bottom gaskets gas would be thrown everywhere.........
It would be a disaster in about 2 seconds......
so had to of been there.....at some time...

On my first injector change I left that gasket in cyl #4......
reinstalled new right over old........guess what happen....
2 seconds............................pours out of 2 and 3.....hmmmm....

 

Knock off Chinese crap.... Brand: injector tree, WTF?

If you're replacing injectors, I would buy them from a legit vendor/company vs Ebay or Amazon unless the seller is a verified Toyota dealer.

 

Your paranoia was correct! After nearly two weeks I was sent an empty package and Amazon has refunded me. Literally the craziest thing and it’s never happened to me before. Amazon support was super helpful and really surprised as well, seller even admitted to sending an empty package. Just a really bizarre experience that unfortunately wasted a large chunk of time.

I’ve made an order with FiveO Motorsport now. I have no idea why it’s so difficult to get good injectors for a 3RZ. Hopefully these ones work out and I can get my truck back to running.

After going around the block few times.....
.....the 3rz's should use the pink ones with the many tiny holes.

.....the 2rz's I got from MW are the dark blue oem ones with the two holes....
