Bad ABS module?

    I have to push my brake peddle halfway down before any breaking occurs. I replaced my master cylinder and brake booster which did not help. I've bleed my brakes over 10 times and even took it to two shops to get the brakes inspected and bled. They even adjusted the rear drums and resurfaced the drums. the parking brake holds the truck when in neutral on a hill. I just replaced my rear brake lines with metal ones and that didn't fix it either. there is no leaks in the system either. Im gonna put metals on the front today too. only thing I can think of is a bad abs module.

    Braking not Breaking.

    The ABS Module will not cause a low pedal.

    Air in the ABS System will. Did these "shops" cycle the ABS Solenoids while bleeding. If they didn't then they didn't bleed the system correctly and you have air trapped in the ABS Solenoids.

    If that’s the answer they gave you, it’s not a good one.
    That like saying, “We rotated your right front tire”


    You’ll likely need to have the system pressure bled WITH the ABS Module activated.
    This is not exactly simple. And most people don’t have the equipment to do it. (Me included)
    You’ll need a scan tool to activate the ABS module. They aren’t cheap.
    (I don’t trust sketchy hacked software, so I won’t buy the eBay stuff)

    When I have to disconnect a brake line, I cap the line with vacuum caps.
    And check the reservoir often. These trucks can be hard to bleed. I do all I can to keep air out of the system.

    I had the same problem last year where and it ended being a seized star wheel in the rear brakes. Took it to a local shop and they had it on the lift. With brakes applied one wheel was still moving freely.

    05-06 do not have solenoids on the abs those didn't start until traction control.

    Another thing you can try is find a place with low traction and do a couple panick stops to cycle the abs then bleed again.

    How do you think the valves switch in the plain old ABS System pre-traction control system?

    I would really love to hear your explanation of how the Four sensor four channel ABS System works for a 2005 and 2006 Tacoma. Looking forward to it.

    Can you find a shop that repairs ABS modules? Saw an episode of Wheeler Dealers, and they used a shop to do a repair on their unit for MUCH less than buying a new one. It was when they were based in California.

    (This week's episode shows them packing up to move back to England. Somehow I don't see Ant leaving, even though he's getting a divorce from his Hollywood actress wife.)

    a used ABS module is about $200 while a repair is already $200 in parts not including labor.

    It's air in the module. I have the same problem. Dealership only manually bleeds and lies to you about needing drums and how you didn't adjust the rod properly when you changed the MC but they'll fix it for $2k.

    I know because I bought a new module and proceeded to put air in that one as well when bleeding the brakes (I swear the res looked like it had fluid in it still!).
