20171216_190026.jpg Have a 2006 6 speed and my reverse lights stopped working a few months ago. I checked for voltage at tail light and I was only getting 5 volts. Checked for voltage before the switch and I got 12volts. I replaced my reverse light switch but noticed it had a good amount of gear oil. I pressed down on the switch and some came out. Is this normal for it to have gear oil? I'm not having any issues with my clutch or tranny.20171216_185352.jpg 20171216_185014.jpg

I also have flickering reverse lights. Currently running Sylvania LEDs which are fantastic when working normally. I haven't checked the switch yet.

Sylvania LEDs suck. There are far better LEDs out there.

@Muddinfun fair enough, though these seem great so far. What sucks about them? What's a better option?

DeAuto. I’ve had Sylvania. DeAutos are amazing. Comparing Sylvania to DeAuto is like comparing a Bic lighter to a flamethrower.

Op how does the plug unhook? I’ve got skid plates and can’t see the top of the plug. Trying to change my switch currently and can barely reach it

Look at the picture above here in post # 1. At the top of the connector there is a place to press down to release the catch then just pull it off.

Revival. Hey folks. Backup camera, lights and acknowledgment beep all started intermittently coming and going when put in reverse on my 12 OR 6spd. Now it’s all out altogether. Is it as easy as unclipping and unscrewing as shown above in the previous pics?
    Thanks

Question i have a 4x4 auto transmission and I don’t see the reverse switch on the side of trans. But i do see two similar connections on the transfer case actuator. Is one of them it?

The reverse circuit is part of the transmission range switch (pin 2 yellow is 12v in from IG1 fuse, pin 1 red is reverse output (12v in reverse)) on the right side of the transmission.

It can be especially if your in an area where rust is a problem. I've personally not done one but I've seen posts on here about it being a pain to replace.

Anybody know the part number for the switch on the transmission for a 2nd Gen 6MT? Only video or thread I could find that had a part number was someone replacing it on a 1st Gen Tacoma. Are the part numbers the same for both?
