    This is pretty straight forward.

I have owned this truck for four going on 5 years now, and I have never once for the life of me been able to remove the backseat headrests.

I thought it was just me until a buddy with a 2013 was trying to figure out the same thing. Even told me he read the manual and there was nothing about it.

No matter what I have done in the past and what we did today I was never and we were not able to pull them out. So what gives? Is there a magic way to remove them or what? It seems pretty stupid to me.

And before the smartass comments YES we have tried depressing the button which usually releases the lock on them.

They are a pain to remove - broke the centre one trying to remove it. Try and tap underneath and in the middle of the headrest as you pull it out. Good luck!!!
    Cheers

Weird that you are having such trouble - all three came out with no effort on my 2013 - but I put them back as they area good safety feature for rear seat passengers - and folded down they offer very little obstruction to my view.

All you need is too push the button and stick a paperclip in the small hole and lift up.

Are your headrests in backwards? Sound stupid but you'd obviously know cause they wouldn't fold the correct way, and they'd look wrong.

Otherwise it's depress the button real hard and pull up hard as hell. They don't like to come out easily but they shouldn't be stuck in there either, they just take a little force which imo is best applied upwards on the button sided post then sort of work it up and out from there as you go.

Which way are these headrests supposed to fold? His folded a different way than mine, he has a 13 though. Either way we pressed the buttons on ours pretty hard and were pulling with a good amount of strength, neither of the headrests on either of the trucks have budged.

    Easy peasy

I took mine off because the kids car seats fit a lot better without them.

Had mine out on Saturday cleaning the rear window. Takes a little force, but they come out. They should fold forward. You should know if they're backwards. The fronts have regular seat like material, the back has a fuzzier carpet like material.

It's funny you say that because my buddies folded backwards and that was the way it was designed. I forgot there was fuzzy carpet back there.

I've considered putting pliers to squeeze the tab while someone used the might of Thor to remove them. It seems to be an impossible feat thus far.

I realize this is an old thread but in case the answer wasn’t out there:
    2013 double cab
Depress the button on the base of the left post with a finger/thumb

While holding the left button, insert a screwdriver or other small object into the slot at the base of the right post to depress the release.

While both releases are being pushed the headrest should slide up and off.
