Through no fault of my own (yeah right :frusty:), my passenger side back glass window broke.

After researching a bit, I see now how invasive this replacement is with lots of people claiming that the pros they used to do it damaged, scratched and/or dented the cab of their trucks or they didn't re-seal it right and now their cab is rusting, cases where the wrong Chinese glass was used, etc etc; lots of horror stories. For that reason, I'd really rather just do the replacement myself to take my time and do it right.

While researching, though, I found this guy's replacement videos on YouTube. He's the only one I've found who retails replacement window panes for the individual panels of the back glass slider in 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. Here's his 3rd gen replacement vid but the 2nd gen looks similar.

2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma Back Glass Repair - YouTube

Aside from the low-quality vid and a pretty sloppy install method, I gotta say this is a pretty enticing repair strategy for a ton of different reasons (it's A LOT cheaper and in doing it this way, you're not disturbing the factory urethane seal/cab interface). I had nothing to lose trying to remove the broken glass from the old frame/seal and, although I'm finding it tedious, have made progress getting the old glass out and am really leaning this direction unless someone tells me it's a waste of money and should just spend the money on the whole quality replacement and try to do it that way.

What do you all think? Anybody used Brad's Auto Glass and done this themselves?

    insurance

    competent glass shop

    warranty

I'd be curious to know if a power full roll down window could be done, like what Tundras and 4runner's have
tri-panel OE window with a tiny hole in the center is pretty useless

I think those even come with rear defroster...

Thanks for posting but not asking about a power slider; just want to replace one panel of my existing 3-panel back glass and was wondering about Brad's Auto Glass product.

Might be a consideration (half the price of a new Toyota slider) but then I'm back to the potentially destructive removal of the factory frame.

This back glass design (with no provison to safely replace it) is another bone-head engineering flaw on these trucks.

I hadn't looked into install but at half the price then let Toyota install, be on the hook for any damage.

The solid back glass you linked is $300 from Toyota, the sliding 3-panel back glass is $600+ and that's just the glass before install.

I'll try to be more clear and say that making the choice to go to a local dealer for the installation of anything (even floor mats) is not a choice I'll ever make so the question is: Anybody have anything good or bad to say about Brad's Auto Glass? Lol.

insurance doesn’t cover dealer glass replacement

glass replacement is done by glass replacement shops

Another option is convert to solid single panel
Unless you have a dog in the back

side windows cracked down with visors vent the same
Converting to single panel would give the ability to install defroster lines for winter

Dealers normally don't installs they sub contract the work out. Tacoma back windows are held in by 8 bolts and urethane. The job isn't that difficult just time consuming. Oem glass will always be more expensive. Aftermarket isn't as bad as think it is. Hope everything works out for you.

So far, the answer to your question seems to be "No, no one has used Brad's".

I'm only seeing 4 bolts. Can you confirm? Thanks

I guess they are a bit different than the 2nd gen. If you do it yourself make sure you use urethane adhesive.

Yes the whole window gets glued in. The bolts just help snug it in there. Tacomas are easy installs for a experienced tech. Nowhere near as stressful as a ram power slider.

@DesertRatliff Dis you experience window back glass patch from Brad´s Auto Glass? I am in need of changing the left panel of my Tacoma and it seems a good alternative. I have read many reviews from his youtube channer and website and it seems it works. Let me know if you tried!
