We're having a baby and we have a 98' Xtra cab. Super stoked, but we're both 6' tall. We haven't got a seat yet to see if everything can fit so I was wondering what others on here have experienced. Thanks for any tips/considerations!

I'd say for the newborn your out of luck since those are rear facing. Once they turn around its not too bad. I can put out the cup holder in the back and it provides a solid platform for them. Most of the time kids ride shot gun, but that's when the wife is not in the truck, or I'll throw her in the back. I have gotten all four of us in there at one time, but one of the kids is now in a booster. Don't think I could have done it if they both had car seats. Hope that gives you an idea. Its not ideal but If its necessary its doable.

Yes, it's a tight fit. Mine didn't fit with the passenger seat all the way forward. Time for a DBL cab! I bought a Sequoia to solve that problem.:proposetoast:

Yea we mostly use my wife's RAV4 for any trips we do as long as we don't expect to need 4x4.

    Congrats!
Think you are going to have a tough time getting a rear facing seat into an access cab. That is a big reason why I went with a DC.
    Good luck.

Forward facing isn't a problem, rear facing will be however. Do you have another family vehicle until the baby is about 1 and can face forward?

Here is my spare child seat, I use it mainly for the 1km trips to and from daycare.

I had to sell my last Tacoma because of kids. Rear facing your SOL but forward facing is a tight fit but works but I don't drive very far when I have my kids in back.

Could you put it in the front seat and make the wife ride in the back? Asking because I'm not going to give up my truck when/if we have kids. She has a CRV that could be the "family" car though.

I guess you could and turn off the passenger air bag, I wouldn't recommend it. I know it's illegal to have a rear facing car seat up front and not very safe. I tried like hell to make it work before I sold my last one but every where I looked people said it's impossible while being safe.

Congratulations on the coming kid. There's a reason I now drive a Subaru. I had a second gen and it wasn't enough room for a forward facing seat let alone a rear facing one. When my wife(5'6") rode with us, her knees were in the dash and that was with her sitting at an angle. Might be time to upgrade a car my friend.

Congrats on the upcoming addition to your family. I had a 2003 Tacoma Xtracab. I didn't attempt to put a rear facing car seat in the back seat. We were able to get a Britax seat to fit in there (forward facing) but it was a pain to get it buckled up. My wife and I are 5'6" and there wasn't much legroom for the kids either. When we had to put two car seats back there I had to rig up a platform for the seat behind the driver. We only used the truck for the kids when dropping them off at preschool or when hauling a load that wouldn't fit in the SUV.

I had zero issues with a rear facing car seat in my 03 ex cab. BUT, my wife is a little gal, so she had room. A 6 ft tall person will be sitting in the dash..
