So occasionally my Dad's truck will have the airbag light come on. Clock spring was changed for this same codes about a year ago according to the documentation from the previous owner. Not sure if the current spring is OEM or aftermarket. I put the scan tool on it. It shows the B1801 Open in D Squid Circuit and B1811 open in D Squib (Dual Stage - 2nd Step) circuit.....I found a few videos that replaced the clock spring and solved the issue BUT I ran across this video and don't know what he's doing in it to solve the problem.

Can anyone explain what he's doing in this video?

I'm not sure what he did on the 2nd part but on the first part he's putting a test resistor in place of the airbag inflator to simulate an airbag inflator being plugged in and prove the circuit is good from the connector to the airbag module.

Airbag systems are extremely sensitive to changes in resistance and are prone to terminal fretting, sometimes just the act of unplugging and plugging in connectors a couple times will fix them.

So I thought I'd post an update. I had the light come and go but recently it stayed on regardless of being cleared by my scan tool.

I seen on the car fax that the previous owner had a record of the same B1811 and had the clock spring changed at 179K. Truck currently has 190K. I thought that's a little soon for a clock spring to fail. I couldn't tell if the clock spring was OEM but I thought it was. I unplugged and plugged in the old clock spring but the code persisted

Finally I replaced the clock spring with an OEM one. The old clock spring does not appear to be OEM after close examination. I took the truck for a long drive today and the light has stayed out!

I watched this video again and it's a crazy video. I would not recommend it. I'm sorry I posted it but I was unsure before. Looks like the OEM clock spring did it.

    Thanks
