Had our '04 taco 4x4 for 20 years.
We have been on plenty of road trips.
We have become interested in day trip trail rides.
I am a veteran with a Lifetime National Parks pass. (ie, tonto pass, etc).
Wondering how to find out what other passes we might need for off-road type trails?
Which type trails need which type passes?

    I did a forum search,
    Did not find helpful info,
    Thanx

for the most part passes aren’t needed to run offroad trails. Can’t really legally wheel on state or national park land. State trust land requires a permit but that’s more dirt road than trails

your best bet is this book

    joining trailruns on this forum

where are you located ? You probably have potential TW friends in your neighborhood

ETA - depending on which national forest you are considering there are some decent multi vehicle use maps you can download for free onto the free Avenza gps app

4 areas in Tonto National Forest now require a permit. It's like $10 for 3 days or $80 for a year if I remember correct.

    Edit: https://www.recreation.gov/activitypass/AP22844

As many times since the beginning of the year I've been out by Saguaro lake I should've just bought the year pass...

If the fees were spent responsibly I'd be all for it, but we all know that's not how government works...

Turns out when you take in a million Californians, you start to resemble California.
