Hi everyone. I'd like some help from people that have had and/or installed both the AVS Aeroskin II and Bugflector II on the Gen 3 Tacomas. Mine is a '22 midnight metallic black. The matt black Aeroskin II would probably match the fender flares pretty well. The smoke colored Bugflector II will match the AVS in-channel window vent shades that are going on once the freezing cold weather subsides and the window tint goes on. I'd mainly like this to protect the front of the hood from paint chips, but I've also never had a Bugflector on any vehicles, so I don't know how well they perform. Any pictures on black Tacomas or advice would be helpful to me in making the decision. Thanks in advance!

Not a black taco but I do have the AVS Aeroskin II on my truck. They are just for looks or like you said, to protect the edge of the hood. I like the looks of it.

Nice access cab, is the aeroskin II attached with tape? Any issues with the install?

    Getting closer to black lol

Flat/matte black on the window vents rather than smoked

I have the Aeroskin II. Over the years, I've seen what Montana does to bumpers and hoods. The bugs are relentless during summer too. I don't expect a ton of protection from bugs on the windshield with it, but it will help the hood at least with road debris damage. TBH, I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have a darker colored truck. I also went with the flat black window vents.

Yes it is attached with tape. Just do like they say and peel back the tape about an inch at each end. Then place it on the hood and take your time aligning it to your liking. Then start pulling the red tape backing off and applying pressure to set the tape. Like you said, best to wait for warmer weather. Here is a install video. Not on a Tacoma but you can see how to peel the tape.

The temperature hit 57F today, close enough to 60F for me to install the Aeroskin II. I forgot to mention that I did need to trim back the plastic just a bit along the edges with a sharp chisel in places where the plastic was sitting higher than the tape, to ensure that the tape would contact the hood first. They could do a better job trimming, but overall I'm happy with the quality. 22TRDORDCLB2.jpg

The aeroskins hold moisture. I helped a neighbor install one and I'm not a fan of either one really.

So what? They are not for everybody. Just like the "A/C Drain mod." Different strokes for different folks. Love my Aeroskin ll.

There are gaps between the sections of tape along the top and bottom, and the sides are open. When the sun hits it, any moisture should evaporate and escape through the gaps in the tape and the sides, so I'm not concerned that any moisture will be held under it. Thank you for your concern.

His truck is black, it looks cloudly under the aeroskin at times. I like the look of it but he complains of it being foggy sometimes.

Front of the hood isn't what typically get paint chips, it's the grill surround that catches all the rock and flying debris.

I most likely won't be doing a lift and tires or anything worthy of a build log.
As of now, this is all I've added to the truck: Husky Liners, APS side steps, KDMax Pro, smoke/amber grill lights, LED bed lights, Aeroskin II, and yesterday I installed a Cat Security plate. I've got the AVS vent shades ready for after the window tint, and I'm waiting on a back-ordered remote lock for the tailgate. Other than a tonneau cover, I don't have plans for doing much more to the truck until the Meso Customs map and dome lights come back in stock.

I was debating between the AVS Aeroskin 2 or low profile AVS bug deflector. Was not keen on the tape part for future damage of paint so decided on the low profile as it screws under the hood in pre drilled holes and can be taken off for washing etc. Did not install the silicone dots as suggested because the deflector does not touch the hood and put it through a car wash and the deflector never vibrated or hit the hood. I also liked the looks of the low compared to the Aeorskin 2 lip that to me is ugly just saying.

As soft as this water base clear coat is I would. E worried that when removing the cover it will pull some clear off. This paint is not the most durable.
