    Hey everyone,

I ordered the Aeroskin hood deflector from AVS as a way to protect from the inevitable rocks thrown up on the highway.

Looks like it installs with just some 3M Tape. My concern is that should I ever decide to remove this, what can I expect as far as paint damage from the 3M stuff?

Anybody running one of these? The pic I attached is Just a layout before install.

Will there be a space between the protector and the edge of the hood? I think it's a cool design, must be a newer product perhaps? I haven't come across this. But I would say there shouldn't be any long term damage to the hood from the 3M adhesive. But it may depend on how well you maintain your vehicles paint finish, i.e wax, polish, clay buff. I have the AVS Bug Reflector, pretty happy with it, so far no rock chips on my 2012. Post more pics when you do install it. :D

those things cause more paint damage than they prevent

tiny bits of grit get under it and work the paint off

The 3M tape should not cause any damage. I had stick-on wind deflectors at my side windows for many years and when I pulled them off there was no damage. Having a white truck also helps. A red truck for instance might fade a little and the area under the tape won't, so when you remove it there will be a red stripe on your pink truck.
The only concern would be if sand and other debris build up under the deflector up against the edge of the tape, but deep enough under the deflector where you can not easily wash/remove it, then it might build up over time and depending what it is might cause paint damage along the edge of the tape. I would however not be too concerned about that, but keep that in mind. Since the deflector is translucent you will be able to see the dirt under the deflector, but might not have a way to get in there to remove it without damaging the tape. My deflector sits almost an inch away from the hood so I can easily wipe underneath it; you won't be able to do that.

I would want it closer to the edge of the hood....

I installed one of the Aeroskin deflectors over top of my 3M paint film, since we get some big rocks thrown by trucks around here, I wanted an extra layer of protection for my hood. Unfortunately, after about a year one side began to unstick, and I had to pull it off and re-tape the underside of the whole deflector.

Then this past winter, during one of our -40C days, the right side of the deflector just shattered when I hit a bump and the hood flexed. I had no choice but to pull over and remove the deflector, which only came apart piece by piece since it was so cold everytime I pulled on it a piece it would break.

I gave AVS a call about the deflector, and since they come with a lifetime warranty they were nice enough to send me a new one free of charge! I'll be cleaning off my hood really well, adding extra 3M double sided tape to the bottom of the deflector and putting the new one on this weekend.

    Awesome advice!

Though we don't get as cold as you Northern guys down here in New England, it was still cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey this past winter. I'll definitely be keeping that in mind when the mercury drops.

Tip: try cleaning the 3M paint film with a little rubbing alcohol before reattaching. It helps remove any $h!t that may be on the surface of the film.

Didn't pick up on the lifetime warranty when i ordered mine, but I'm glad AVS stands behind their product.

That looks great. I had an AVS Hoodflector but took it off because I grew to hate the look. These look a bit better. Let us know how it works! :)

Sure thing! I like the look; it reminds me of the Bumble Bee stripes on the old Mopars from the '70s kindasorta.

I ordered one for my wife's 2012 Civic which is pretty much a wedge rolling down the road at highway speed. She already has a few chips that are starting to rust.:eek: I plan on fixing them as soon as we get reliably 70 degree days here in CT then it'll get Aeroskinned.

That seems pretty good, better than others I've seen. I might have to get myself one.

Thought about getting one of those.
Have some rock chips right in that area.
    How wide is it?

Its about 3" wide the whole length. Once installed its about ~1/8" or so off the hood surface (just the thickness of the 3M tape). It follows the contour of the hood VERY nicely.
