Any stereo geeks out there that have experience with a Pioneer head unit? Need a new head unit? My Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX just went on the fritz earlier this week after working fine for the past year+.After it goes through a loading cycle the the screen flickers and touchscreen is non-responsive

That's 3 of us at least. My 4400 went toes up for the second time a couple of weeks ago. First time was a bad circuit board fixed under warranty, second is for a software issue and system won't even POST. Called the Pioneer repair service, no help other than send it in and we'll let you know the cost to repair. Called Pioneer and was told the warranty from them is only good for 1 year and they couldn't help.
I've now got a large paper weight with one of my favorite cd's in it. Went to the Blue Box store and got a W4500 with the 4-year extended warranty. Didn't get that with the first head unit, shouldn't need that with a Pioneer based on my experience with them before. We'll see what the future holds....

Update - I replaced the Pioneer with a Sony XAV-AX7000 and like it. Later I did some research and found Pioneer has their firmware on an sd card that should not be too difficult to change, search YouTube for AVH-W4400NEX software issues for the instructions. Have another Tacoma owner that wants my unit to try the sd card replacement, will update when it's done.

Anther Update - It's been a while but he was able to get the firmware, put it on a new card and replace the bad one. It's still working good for him he reports.

Hey Guys - I just experienced the same exact issue within the last week and was preparing to box it up and sent to the factory repair center when I came across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cHp6jxD5R8
Lo & Behold - it seems like a silly fix, but IT WORKED! In hindsight I guess it makes sense considering the software loads up every single time the truck is turned on. Quick note: before you put in the new card, cut a slot in the plastic cover plate just below the existing slot for easy access next time. Mine acted up in only 18 months, so chances are it will do it again in similar time frame, but next time I won't have to tear everything out!
