Going to be moving my Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX from my Civic to the Tacoma. So I have keep steering wheel controls, I got the two idatalink maestro RR kits. I got the account set up and all that's left is to program the unit and install everything.

Has anyone installed the Maestro RR into an 08 Tacoma? This looks a bit trickier than I thought and want to make sure I use the right connectors. What screwed me up at the beginning was when I started to remove the radio and found this hooked up to the harness....
Was this a standard thing or aftermarket from the previous owner?

I have it and the harness attached removed. The only thing that makes it weird is that it looks like the Maestro RR came with a radio harness and I didn't need to buy a harness to fit the truck.

Got the module flashed but I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to set for the buttons.....

Well, aside from a few extra connections, there a a few plugs I'm not sure about and the instructions aren't the best.

Only one way to find out.

I think that was an aftermarket install for somebody who clearly wanted to use an Ipod and see what it was playing on the stock radio. Glad you got the RR installed. Post up pictures for things if you have questions.

Decided, since I'm apparently an impulse buyer now, to get a second 4400. Now I have one in the Civic and the new one will go in the Tacoma.

Since I haven't seen any steps for how to do one for an 08 DCB non-JBL I guess I'll toss some pics here for future reference.

It should be in by Wed. Best part is Crutchfield dropped $200 off the price now. Looks like the next version is about to come out with that weblink thing that I have no use for.

This has me a bit confused. I checked the FSM but I must have missed something. What is this one for?

    It finally came in.

I'll be taking all this to work tomorrow to get it all set for the install.

All that's left is to order an HDMI to TYPE C and I'm all set

Any pics of how you managed to jam all this stuff behind the dash? I have an alpine ilx-207 installed but I need to pull it back out to install the maestro.

I haven't installed the entire unit yet. I will grab all the shots. I'm OCD about the cables so I don't just cram it in.

With the Maestro there are 4 holes that appear to accept zip ties. I plan to mount it to a frame and have the USB cable it came.with for flashing hanging in the glove box so I can easily flash it in the future.

Well, a shit show it was. So far I forgot to include one harness and now I'm still short one.

I have three plugged in but I'm not able to find any adapter that connects to the forth harness in the factory wire bundle.

Does anyone know if the FSM has the radio harnesses labeled? I really don't want to deal with iDatalink as they only want to deal with "professional" techs......

I just did mine today. Not all harnesses were used...it’s ok if there’s one left over. I plugged it all up and tested before I tucked all the wires in to make sure everything was working...

It also helps that, for the second time in a row, you don't forget that the forth harness actually plugs into the hazard light/clock.......:bananadead:

This is now the second time that I forgot about it. Till have a ways to go to learn all the nuts, bolts and rust spots....lol

Once I get home from work will continue with the install and get picks. The only extra wires are on the maestro harness. I still don't know what the aux cords are for.

Yeaaaaaaahhhhh.....I should have done that. I know better but I still slammed it all in and tested it.

First time I forgot the iDatalink cable. Then the maestro didn't work (two red flashes). So I'll have to flash it again.

I managed to tuck the unit up and to the right. The rest of the cables ended up above and also to the left where I could find pockets.

What really sets me back right not is the plastic crap metra double din shit that Crutchfield recommended I get. It's warped, has too much plastic so it isn't sturdy, and it doesn't fit.

Now I have to look for another grey double din.
Maybe I'll be able to tuck the wires back more cleanly once the sun comes out and I get some sleep...

I had the metra first as well. Swapped it out for the scosche kit. My HU is a double din face with a single din chassis on the bottom so the factory brackets wouldnt work with it quite as well as I'd have liked. I was only able to get one screw into the head unit and the bracket was kind of shakey. The scosche worked out much better for me...sucks to take it all back out and redo it but it was worth it for me.

How sturdy is it with plastic mounts vs the metal bracket?

I just put my order in. The Metra was so eBay quality.....

It was warped, didn't fit, held the hazard light.....

I struggled with keeping it silver silver or going black. Ended up going with silver.

Also, what's this thing it says in the manual about being able to buy rear supports?

    That's good to know.

I did see a few reviews state the metal brackets can be used. So that's a plus.
