I'm looking to add a 15 gallon fuel tank as close to the tailgate/over the axle as possible for extra weight in the rear and because more fuel is never bad. I want to build a custom mount for it to tie into the bed bolts and run a tap into the filler neck so when the gas light comes on I can just open it and unload the entire fuel cell.

Has anyone done something like this? My truck is a long travel prerunner and beyond the benefits of extra fuel, the weight in the back always helps, I plan on adding foam to the tank of course.

I'm hoping it's as good of an idea in actuality as it is inside my head. Not sure how many other Prerunner setups have done this. Usually they just cage the bed and run the 1 gas tank.

he def had at least an 8 gallon back there. as well as built out a box in the bed to hold a few other things for storage. sometimes he sets it up to be a expo but its def a full on LT pre runner.

Not sure why adding weight at all (or in the back) helps

what's even better than extra fuel tanks
    is a higher quality engine
such as a powerful turbodiesel that is more fuel efficient and gets more MPG

    FEW

    i ran 60 gallons for years ( stock36gal +24side saddle)

    never noticed the weight

i suggestion to U is look at the many fuel cells offered at SUMMITT racing

    all sizes/types with certifications

fuel cell anti slosh material already inside

    feasible means to mount

not expensive as U might think

    VERY Safe WELL made

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
Google "explosafe". Seems that this would be a better option than foam.

Mo gogo juice is always nice.

I would also suggest rotating that gas out. Gas doesn't have the shelf life it used to. Not to mention the ethanol pulls moisture from the atmosphere.

Did you ever get this sorted? I run two spares in my bed-bypass rack.

I was debating putting a square fuel cell under the bed where the oem spare tire was. Now it’s a large square hole behind the bumper.

it’s a massive amount of space and I can run a filler either having it exit in the bed which I don’t like, or more likely run the filler hose to the side of the bedside just like the factory one. So there would be two fuel fillers. (I have fiberglass sides so
    Extra space there too)

my one issue is getting the fuel from the fuel cell into the main tank. A lot of people want this to be automatic. I don’t really care. It would be nice but not an issue.

I would run a pump off my Spod I think, and possibly have the line go into the filler neck of the oem gas filler.

I just have read there are issues with vacuum and the factory computer.... that I need to sort.
