Auxbeam switch box and lights - how do they hold up in the PNW?

    Hi there,

I recently installed an Auxbeam 8 gang switch box (yes, I am very proud of myself), everything lights up but I don't have any external lights - I plan on getting some ditch lights, a HAM radio, and a light bar when I install a front bumper (probably will get Overland Outfitters to do that).

    Questions:

    1. Anyone here have long term experience with the Auxbeam switch box? I think we get a lot more moisture and rain etc compared to SoCal and other parts of the US so I wasn't sure if posting this question on the main board would be helpful or not.

    2. Lights: I fully agree with "buy once cry once" so was not thinking of Auxbeam lights because of condensation and moisture etc on their Amazon reviews - was thinking of Rigid side shooters - any recommendations for ditch lights that'll survive PNW rain etc?

And if Wormsquirts is around: Overland Outfitters used to carry the CaliRaised switch box, which looks EXACTLY like an older version of the Auxbeam kit, down to the mounting brackets, screws etc. (but I don't see it on your website any more) - do you have any reviews/feedback on the CR kit?

Hello - I am wondering if you sell a cover for the side shooter lights (27W)? I think in British Columbia I have to cover my off road lights when driving on a regular road...

    Thx!

Hey man, we do still carry both CR and Vivid lumens, which are both pretty much the same other than backlight colour. Aux beam is also pretty much the same thing. Most people don't have trouble with them. and we install a lot. We've also recently started 3D printing our own switch holders that mount the switch panel in on the dash that look super clean, so you can hit us up about that if you want.

Honestly, it's tough with condensation up here. Even my Baja Designs lightbar has a bit of condensation in it, but none of my other BD lights do. We have tons of CR lights in stock that we can sell for a decent price if you'd like. They are substantially cheaper than Rigid or BD.

    Hey @WormSquirts,

I see that you are having some trouble with your lightbar. Shoot me a PM and we can get your light bar looking like new.

Hi @WormSquirts - Thanks for the reply - Your crew emailed and will give me some quotes for the CR vs Rigid lights.

In your experience, if price was not a concern (ie. buy once, cry once) would you recommend the Rigids over the CRs in terms of durability, and light brightness/throw (straight ahead and sideways)?

On my own vehicles I've used the following brands so far:
    Rigid
    Caliraised
    Vivid lumen
    Baja design

Of all of them, the bd were the best as far as light quality and quantity. Also colour. Most light bars are blue-ey, which is exhausting on the eyes. Bd is a warmer light that is much more natural.

The only bd light I've had condensation with is my light bar for some reason.

The rigid was fine and lasted for a long time before I sold it. It lost almost all its powder coat around the lense. The light was quite blue though.

The caliraised are good if you want cheap, but every one I've had has gotten condensation, and the powder coat chips off. They are also blue.

The vivid lights haven't gotten condensation yet on our 4runner, and are pretty decent.they are also a generic blueish light though. They are a local BC company though, and are more affordable.

I think if I were to choose, best quality, Baja designs. Best for it's price: vivid lumens.

That said, we have a ton of caliraised lights in stock that I would really like to sell out of, so if you want to go that route, just let the team know I said to give you a deal on the cr lights on tw.

Thx for the very fast and very helpful reply!

I will start researching BD lights, but also email Kyle to ask how cheap the CRs can go, but I'm not a fan of replacing cheaper components and adding to the landfill (I'm also lazy). I'd rather buy the best components that will also last forever.
