Does anyone know if these aux switches can be purchased aftermarket and then installed on the Tacoma?

The Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator has a similar aux switch package and it can be ordered from Mopar and then self-installed on any Wrangler/Gladiator that supports them..

Can the same be done with the aux switches on the Tacoma that are coming with the higher trims?

I test drove a Tacoma today and noticed it had placeholder buttons for where the aux switches are on the Trailhunter.

That's not what I'm talking about.

What I'm talking about would be not just buttons but also have the harness and everything. It's not just buttons.

It's a system that comes with the higher end trims I believe that has 3 aux buttons on a panel to the left of the steering wheel. It makes it so that you can easily wire accessories to factory-provided electrical points under the hood that are pre-installed and easy to get to, to negate the need for something like an Spod.

Since the dummy buttons are there on the lower trims, if they sold the aux switch assembly and harness aftermarket (the oem one not '3rd party' companies) you can remove the dummy buttons and install the real switches.

the switches are functional but will not have a harness so to speak. toyota will not know what you will be connecting to these switches so why would they include a harness?

Sometimes I feel like I must be the worst communicator in the world because sometimes no one seems to understand what I say even if I feel like I'm being crystal clear.

It's a feature. of the Tacoma. Whether it's only on the Trailhunter and TRD Pro, or whether it's available as an option on other trims (I am guessing not since it's not right now, but doesn't mean it won't always be).

    Still. They are all. Tacomas.

If you take the wiring harness and buttons which is Im' talking about. A complete package. Off. of the Trailhunter, and put it on a TRD Pro. It should work.

    I hope that's clear enough.

Now I don't know anything about Toyota.. but with the Jeep JL/JT Wrangler / Gladiator the aux switches can be installed on trims that you didn't get it as an option by purchasing it from Mopar (basically the dealer, it's not a 3rd party company, it's OEM) and then it comes with the switches and the harness..

I don't know how the aux switches work on the Tacoma if it's tied into the software or not. On Jeep it's tied into the software where you can configure each switch whether it works only when the engine is on, when it's on and off, if it runs .. all kinds of stuff.

If it's not tied into the software then it's just a matter of installing the wiring harness.

The aux switches in the Tacoma serve the purpose of having ready made easily accessible places under the hood to wire up accessories, so you don't have to run wires through your truck etc. to install switches to run lights, for ex. You just hook 'em up to the pre-installed (or in our case DIY or dealer installed) and it's easy peasey.

Benefits are ease of wiring and since it's OEM it fits into the vehicle.

So what I'm asking is, is that available to purchase from Toyota aftermarket.

Just out of curiosity. I was seriously considering a Gladiator when they first came out. Care to share why you are considering a 4G Tacoma? Thanks.

i imagine once you can find a part # for the switch you could probably order it.

knowing toyota, they will break out each part of the aux switch panel as different part # so you will have to piece meal it together.

Sure. I actually test drove a Tacoma before I got my Gladiator, but it still had the old engine in it and I felt it wasn't powerful enough. That's part of the problem with the Gladiator actually, the other problem is gas mileage. I average 12/13 mpg.. I just can't afford to drive something with such terrible gas mileage. I drive to Dallas, the off-road trails are 2 hours away minimum from me. I like to go on road trips to visit family. I just can't see doing that on 12/13mpg. I have to refuel every 2 hours at half a tank, 3 if I leave it to 1/4.

There is the Diesel but it has the DEF system and with the supply chain issues there were Diesel Gladiators in the shop for literally 6 months to a year waiting for new parts for the emissions system to come in, and it also cost like A LOT to replace.

But gas mileage mainly. I also like that the Tacoma comes with so much standard, that you have to add on piece meal and break the bank with the Gladiator. The 4G to me what really made it happen was making the 360 camera system HD, and the new iForce Max powertrain.

I test drove the regular non-hybrid Tacoma but it didn't have enough power for me. Power was the other issue because I wanna put steel bumpers, Diamondback cover, tent etc. With the Gladiator I was always terrified that it would turn it into a turtle and even more of a gas hog than what it is now.

I also really love the reliability of Toyota. If the power was there back when I test drove the Tacoma a few years ago I might have bought it instead of the Gladiator. In comparison the Ford Ranger had the most power out of the three (Ranger, Gladiator, 3G Tacoma) but it just didn't have really have the following that Tacoma and Gladiator has and the sheer amount of mods available for the platform.

Hmm, yeah. Ford is the same way. I had to replace a seat lever on my Mustang and it was 3 separate parts.

He has three Aux buttons to the left of the steering wheel. Probably part of an option package.

I went to the dealer parts department today, and they couldn't find the part numbers on these switches. Then the guy tried to tell me he can't find them because they only come on higher trims. I went out to the yard and found them on other trd off rd on his lot. So he looked based on that vin number and he still couldn't find them. He said he will have to contact Toyota and get back with me.
