I replaced my right front (4 piston) caliper in April of this year with an Autozone rebuilt caliper. Looked nice, shiny gray coated and has held up well without rusting. Even has a bushing, copper or brass, inside to help the brake line seal up easily.
This caliper worked great until the other day, and now it's leaking, truck pulls to the right intermittently (not too often, though).
Lifetime warranty, but annoying to have to change it after just six or seven months. Anyone have recent experience with Autozone calipers? I'm not sure, but the color of these reminds me of Nugeon brand.
Thanks, and hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

Yes lifetime is good, but a pain as you say.

You can spend a “lifetime” replacing it, over and over again.
At some point, the cost of labor (yours or someone else’s) will exceed the cost of a quality part.
Warranties make you feel good, they didn’t guarantee that the part is of good quality or free of defects.

Seriously a warranty has nothing to do with quality.

I’m trying some carquest ones now, they seem fine, refurbed in Mexico. Would have gone oem but I needed them now and the nearest pair was 2 states away.

You can also try, Rock Auto, They offer close to OEM parts. And if you can't get OEM, Go to NAPA.

Sorry but that sucks as your OEMs are now gone.
I also read the reviews and even went to Napa and of the 2 they had the coating was a thick mess so I did my own as no OEM available at that time.
For others needing calipers only $20 for an OEM caliper seal kit is a cheap way to go but time consuming to really pull all apart and clean well.

Where is it leaking from, piston seals or a body seam? According to South Main Auto, sometimes the bolts holding the caliper halves together aren't tight from the reman factory, so it's recommended to torque them before install.

As you've unfortunately discovered, nice and shiny doesn't equate to a quality remanufactured or rebuilt part. (There is a difference there.) The process and the parts used are far more important. Also unfortunately, most rebuilt / remanufactured parts all come from the same folks and just end up in boxes with different labels on them. And the most important criteria for them is lowest possible cost for parts and process. Guess what that leads to?

The only remanufactured parts I trust are actual Toyota remanufactured parts because they care about both the parts and process. Unfortunately, these aren't always available and almost always cost more.

The only parts store remanufactured parts I trust are NAPA and only then, their premium line.

I'm going to check later today, but this sounds likely. Looked like it could be coming from the seam. I'm thinking it may be due to the seals shrinking in the sudden cold weather we're having. I put the caliper on in April when temps were 70-80 degrees.
Did South Main recommend a torque value (approx)?
    Thanks for the info!
Oh, I also picked up another reman caliper (just in case). I can return either the defective or new one for a refund. I did notice the newest one does not have the metal rings around the dust boots. Any reason to be concerned (other than me being ocd)? I guess the ones without the rings have a ridge they recess into.

^No FSM values for the caliper assembly bolts, just snug them up with a 8" ratchet.

The FSM diagram shows the ring is for keeping the dust boot in place. If you decide to use the new caliper, you should transfer the rings over from the old caliper.

Yeah, I know what you mean. However, my left caliper is a reman, several years old and been fine. Just never know, really.
My old 99 F150 had an original caliper seize at 50k miles, about five years old. I replaced the pair with Fenco remanufactured.
Over 200k miles and 19 years later, still using one of those calipers. I swapped one due to rust, but neither one leaked or seized.
Too bad Fenco is out of business.

Yeah, I guess the rebuilder figured "you don't need these." Unless the engineer who designed it declares the part unnecessary, I use it.
Thanks, I'll swap them over if I use the new caliper.
