Hello all, picked up a 96 taco a few months ago and have since realized what I've gotten myself into.I have frame rot pretty bad by the driver side front spring hanger.i plan on patching in and then reinforcing these areas.I came across a company called autorust, they sell a piece called a safe-T-cap for that specific area.has anyone used these on their rusted frame in this particular area? Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Hey,
Im looking into the same safe t cap for my 96 extended cab. I have the same exact rust issue at the front spring hangers. It's been difficult finding anyone willing to do any kind of welding on the frame. Cant really help with any info as I am also in need of some advice. Anyone else have any opinions or comments?

    302pony,
I was planning on calling Auto Rust to ask them if they knew anyone around my area who has installed one of their kits. Ill call them after new years and let you know what they say.

Hey guys sorry I haven't checked this thread in a while.i also called autorust and didn't really get any "helpful" info.they just said to cut out the rotted area n weld it on . I'm ordering these when tax $ comes in along with trail gears rear 3" lift kit with all new everything. Spring hangers, leaf springs, shocks, frame box kit etc.figure I'd make it a 1 shot deal n be done with it.ill post up pics of the process

Checking in on an old thread, did you end up installing the saf-t-cap pieces? If so, how did it go and how is it holding up?

I used the saf-t-cap on the drivers side of my 2000 prerunner and it was a good fit with just minor adjustments. I reused the existing hangar. This picture just shows spot welded in place

@chernobyl1 and @Lirrtw did you guys weld the caps yourselves or pay to have it done? I'm looking for an approximate retail price to pay someone.

I did mine myself and it allowed me to put in some extra pieces for bracing, however in retrospect I would just pay the man. @Lirrtw result's look way better than mine!
