Truck started to vibrate and not shift properly, When traffic comes to a stop and I have to hit my brakes real quick my transmission goes out/ feels like it goes in to neutral, when I accelerate the rpms go to 4k and have to let off then it's an abrupt shift and loud noise. Even when I turn and hit the brakes my transmission does the same damn thing feels like it goes into neutral and when I accelerate the rpms just shoot up like its in neutral. And then it's an abrupt shift and loud noise. I read this is a known issue with high mileage tacomas.

I have heard that this can be caused by the throttle position sensor being out of adjustment or a shift solenoid needing to be replaced.

Has anyone around here heard of this? Does anybody have information on either?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?
Do you have the 2.7L I4 or the 4.0L V6?

My 2 gen had the same issue like yours. The previous owner also mentioned that he already had the oil changed at a shop.
I ended up doing a transmission flush myself, with the instruction I found here at TW (disconnecting the transmission cooler). In this instruction I believe was also mentioned how to check the correct oil level (by putting a jumper into the obd port).
Anyway it turned out that 1 quart of oil was missing and I believe the shop just refilled the same amount they previously took out (because the correct process is a lot to fiddle around). Apparently there were reports that some 2 gen’s didn’t receive the correct amount of transmission fluid from the factory.

after I did the transmission flush (3 or 4 years ago) I never had this issue again and in general the transmission started shifting better and faster then before.

here a link to the flush process
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-full-flush-for-automatic-transmission.68462/

and in this thread you can find the link to the fill level process

There’s been more than a few reports of the same symptoms you are having.
Stopping = revs and feels like neutral.
Accelerating = revs bangs into gear.

Most were a low fluid condition.

    You say it’s been checked.
Who checked it, and how did they check it.
If it took them less than 10 mins to check it, it was not checked right.
These transmissions are not easy to check and get the fluid correct if you aren’t familiar with them.

A pressure gauge would be nice in a situation like this .
The SLT solenoid inside the transmission valve body is known as a common issue causing similar symptoms to what he is describing .
Once again , its 5 in the morning . Gotta get a coffee in me lol but thats the first thing that comes to mind

Its such a common problem , there have been a few articles written about it .
Let me see if I can find it

Yup . Here .....check this out .
    http://bluegrasstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/a750e_shudder.pdf

Follow the diagnostic procedure listed above . Hopefully this is your issue . Cheaper than a transmission rebuild

My new to me 2006 shifted just a bit weird. Had it drained and filled at 60k miles and it was cured. My new to me 2014 was checked the first week I owned it. Topped with about 1/3 quart.
Check the lever per the instructions on this forum.

My mistake , I am getting code P0705. P0705 code stands for “Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input).”

That could do it, if the transmission doesn't know what gear it's in it won't know when/how to shift.

    Ok .
Do you have a digital volt ohm meter ?
Next step would be diagnosing why your neutral safety switch is tripping the code .
99 % of the time , the internal contacts get all corroded
