Can anyone confirm the thread size for the automatic shift knob is still 8mm x 1.25?

Can confirm. It is still 8mm x 1.25 on the 3rd gen Tacoma automatic shifter.

If you are looking for a threaded insert to make your own shifter knob, here's a link to what I used.

Off topic but anyone elses knob loose? So annoying. Can you pull the boot off to twist it tighter?

.. Huh.. You know, I honestly couldn't say. I know I drilled the hole out with an 8mm bit. The next size up on the Inch side of the house would be 21/64. And I don't remember stepping up to that. Drilled it at 8mm, switched out bits with a hex head, drove the insert home no problem.

Define "loose". Is it wiggling or turning?

But yes. You can easily pull the boot off. If you'll just pull straight down on the chrome ring at the base, it'll pull down from the original knob. Then you can screw or unscrew to your heart's content.

I ordered a new knob and I know the hole in the new one is going to be too big. It has set screws so I need to figure out what I have to do. Maybe get a 8mm nylon bushing to screw on the shaft and set screw the new knob to it.

Hmm... You know, that's the best plan that comes to mind. I love figuring out little problems like this though. Thinking outside the box to get something to do what I want it to do. Let me know how it turns out. I'd be interested to see the results.

What about the 2nd generation shifter knob? Is the thread size also 8mm x 1.25?
