Sorry. I haven't gotten so lazy that can't grab the handle on my tailgate.

and since it has soft opening, not like you need to pull it and slowly lower it lol.

Pull to pop the lock open and then just drop it, will be fine.
pop and lock was all that was needed to me.

Only thing I'm finding annoying with the soft open is it almost seems to fight you when closing it.
With all the full sizes at work and 3/4+ tons, haven't found a tailgate that fights closing as much as the tacoma does. Wonder if this is something that can be adjusted.

The Tundra has a assist that helps closing as well. The Tacoma only has a soft opening.
I was helping my brother in law move last year. I assumed that his Ford F-150 also had the tailgate assist. I opened his tailgate and it slammed open. I had to show him with my truck why I did that.

oh god...just realized I'm going to get used to the tacoma and then drop open one of the work trucks tailgate and get bitched at haha.

then again those are probably used to it. Work with too many idiots that treat company tools and vehicles like absolute shit then complain when they don't work.
Throwing drills and band saws on the ground, slamming doors, dropping torque wrenches.
    Such dumb asses.

I treat my work vehicle and tools like my own. Often I get confused looks by coworkers for doing that.

same. I've yelled at apprentices for throwing tools on the ground.
one little twat even filed a grievance against me saying I threatened him haha.
After the union rep heard what I said to him it was thrown out.
little shit threw MY tools on the ground, told him "throw my tools on the ground again and you'll be eating those pliers"

I think it works great. Only other thing that should be standard is the auto locking tail gate.

should have auto opening when your hands are busy carrying something but the ability to open using your foot like my BMW and a lot of cars thee days. Should not be limited to cars. Deserves some research...

Or maybe... maybe... you set the load down, open the tailgate, pick the load back up, put it in the bed and close the tailgate.

:gossip: You guys understand that a wheelchair bound person may want a tailgate that lowers and raises itself, right?

Yup, a friend of mine had one on his VW van. It was just that OP may not have wanted to announce why he wanted a self lowering tailgate...

Also, there’s a big cost difference between a simple DIY and a mobility company special edition.

Looks like there’s a DIY one available for what he needed anyways.
