I was watching a video by TRD Jon on the Prerunner trim where he showed the disable button for the auto stop - start function. The button was on the flat console panel near the arm rest.

Which other trims do or do not have this stupid pos feature? Do you have to get a MT to avoid it?

So can’t be 100% sure but I noticed that there was a blank switch in the same location on the Pro and Trail Hunter trims. They keep saying those are “pre production” trucks so maybe they just left it out for now but it seems like they don’t have auto start stop.

the non-Hybrid will have Engine Start Stop and this button

the Hybrid won't have ESS or the button

I haven't seen confirmation of ESS in the 6MT interior pics but if I had to guess, the 6MT will also have ESS and the button because it's the same non-hybrid engine as the autos

those two are hybrid-only so they won't have ESS

    they are also automatic only

Ugh... deal breaker for me. I wanted to get the non-hybrid TRD Sport. I am willing to get an automatic or manual transmission. Guess I will have to wait until next year and get a hybrid instead. Thank you.

Just watched a detailed close up video from Toyota Jeff Reviews on a 6MT TRD Sport and that particular bank of buttons are all blanks except for the far right one which is clutch cancel (or something like that) so maybe there's hope!

I believe the hybrid engine starts and stops inherently, as the electric motor that sits between the engine and trans is what gets things moving. Pretty sure the engine crankshaft turns whether or not the engine is actually producing power. I would not think a hybrid would need to have a starter motor because the electric motor does that function. The non hybrid, however still needs a starter motor to get the engine turning (started), which is why the non hybrids would have the "start-stop" disable feature.

There are inexpensive devices that plug into the OBD port that bypasses that, at least on gas engines

I’m not familiar with hybrid engines, would it have that annoying “stop / start” feel that you get with the non-hybrid vehicles when ever you stop at a light?

I have a hunch it's not there but on the bank to the left of the steering wheel. That's where it is on the Tundra

It's the A with the circle thing and OFF

Would this void the warranty by chance?

Remove it when you go to the dealer.

It literally plugs into the port and only works while it's there. Nothing is permanently altered.

The Tacoma hybrid may have a starter generator so it’s the starter and the alternator together bad part is your belt is part of this system so you better have a good belt, some even have coolant flowing through them.

My Tundra hybrid is as smooth as glass. The tach "needle" disappears and the engine cuts out as you are decelerating to a light. During the red light the engine is off. No disruption in A/C, car functions, etc. If you're in a drive through or just want to creep forward you can using the electric motor. No delay or hesitation at all.

Light turns green, hit the gas, the electric motor starts pulling you away instantly, followed by the gas engine kicking in a moment later. No hesitation, shudders or anything. You know from the engine note re-engaging and the tach "needle" reappearing.

It's a great system. Much better than the starters you hear ratcheting away at the stoplight as the other cars' systems are engaging.

Can't speak to the new Taco for obvious reasons but the Tundra hybrid motor is in the bell housing. No belt or chain to worry about.

Does the hybrid only work for take offs on the tundra?
