Audio Equipment for a Regular Cab

Folks,

I'm contemplating the following setup for my Regular Cab, with speakers in the door (obviously) amps under the seats, and sub behind the passenger seat.

The Fosgate is nice and compact for mounting under the seats, and likely gets the nod here.

Any thoughts on any of this equipment?

Some of that stuff is actually priced at full retail markup at Crutchfield, so I wouldn't buy all the stuff from them; though I like working with them so I'll buy their stuff when it's anywhere near price competitive.

 

Realized I didn't follow the first rule of asking for advice: state my goals for the system.

1. Decent volume for while I'm rolling down the highway with the windows open when the weather's nice - loud enough to be heard over the wind and tire noise. Doesn't need to be "make-your-ears-bleed-loud."

2. Hear and feel the thump in the music when there are low drums or other low instruments.

3. Mostly play rock music

4. Integrate with my iphone blue tooth hands free. I'm so sick of my visor mount bluetooth that stays on when I go inside the house and causes me to miss calls when it steels the signal.

5. integrate with my iphone via bluetooth to play music stored on the iphone

6. listen to CDs, FM, AM. I picked a DVD player instead of CD not to play DVDs, but because I want a touchscreen.

 

I just bought the TS-SW2501 about a week ago or so, and it is really hard to find it without paying retail (or rolling the dice on eBay). What I did, and I see there is another one there now, is got mine through the Amazon Warehouse deals w/ Prime Shipping. I have had really good luck with that method. Mine was listed as "Used - Like New", and when I got it, I checked it completely over, and it is perfect. The outside packaging box had some slight wear on one of the corners (looks to be from previous shipping), but we're talking the packaging box here. Everything inside was sealed tape and perfect. Anyway, not sure if you want to go that route or not, but there is one there now for $91, and it is listed as "Used - Very Good" which in my experience is that it is just a shipping return that came back to them. So, if you're OK with that, it is one option out there.

 

One thing I realized is that no matter how hard I try not to, I'm gonna end up comparing this to the last stereo I built which was in a 2001 Intrepid - and that thing had infinite install space. So it has some cavernous sub box with like 3 full depth 10" subs in it.

I happened to stop at Fry's on the way home today. They only had one shallow depth sub, a 10" MB Quart (probably RLP254, but I didn't write it down) and when I pushed the button and turned it on... "Huh? Is that thing even ON?" Put a hand in front of it.... Yep it's on. sheesh.

When it comes to bass, there's no substitute for cubic feet.

OK, I'm going to have to keep my expectations low, and go with the best shallow sub I can come up with - which probably means the JL.

You should look into sundown..they got a shallow mounted sub can be had in 8s-12s..your goin to need another amp or a 4 channel .to power your front and subs..

 

Also look into the brx series of amps from Rockford fosgate there about the Size of 3 she's stacked..take up less space

To start with I'm only planning on running ONE subwoofer to be mounted on passenger side. If I put in a pair I'd have to move my fire extinguisher, ham radio, and air compressor hose. Once the system is together, if there's not enough thump, I'll get another box and put a second sub on the driver side.

I saw the BRX amps - but I don't think I need to go that small to fit under seats right? A couple folks were commenting on how hot they ran.

I never noticed it..I have a brx but never really felt it. Although I can tell you the t600-4 I run my tweets and mids gets so hot you can keep your hand on it for more the 5 min..but from what I read that's normal..and been sealed up behind the seats isn't really helping. I never had a problem with it tho..I never used there prime line but if it's anything like the punch and power should be fine

 

Ive got a bazooka tube behind my seat its not super loud, but I like it.

 

Sub'd. I'd go with a custom box for your 10" sub or a Mr. Marv box. I've never liked slim box subs. Besides you could get about double the box volume with a box made to fit. You lose a bit of space from the brace that runs horizontally across the cab when you use a flat backed box. I have a nice two year old system from my Ranger that I need to put in the Taco. I've just been dreading pulling the seats and basically spending a day hooking it all up. I need to get a box too though.
I'm 5'9" so I have enough room behind my seat for a rather large box for a single sub. I plan to cut one of those "hook" things that protrude from the brace off and do something like this.

I might add an inch or two to the height.
If I don't do this I'm gonna get a Mr. Marv box.

 

Yeah I'm definitely talking to Mr. Marv about building the box. He's gonna make it out of birch plywood to make it more durable for off-roading.
