    Hey guys and gals,

Would it be possible for one of you amazing people who happen to own a prinsu cab rack to measure their extruded aluminum (cross-bars). I am looking into building my own copycat Prinsu rack since I have access to a plasma cutter and aluminum welder among other things. I might even do a write-up in the future if it goes well. However, I am having a hard time finding the exact dimensions associated with the extruded aluminum. I mostly need the exact length x width x height of the extruded aluminum so I know what to order. If you are feeling exceptionally helpful I'd be happy to see any additional measurements that you might be able to give me or you think might come in handy. I would also be curious to know if the topper rack is identically built, but longer.

    Thank you!

What they use looks comparable to the 15 series 80/20. Not sure on the width, but that's probably a good start for the other dimensions on the extrusion.

I suspect it might be the 1"x2" 10 series based on their t-nut hardware dimensions but you might be right. The 15 series is 1.5"x3" which would considerably bump up the price for the build.

Straight from the horse's mouth. You were right.

"The Tacoma Cabrac is a modular, adjustable, and completely bolt together roof rack for 2005-2019 Toyota Tacoma in the double cab configuration. See also our model for the access cab configuration.

The rack consists of 2 laser cut side rails constructed of 3/16″ 5052 aluminum plate. These rails have 3 mounting tabs each that will allow you to bolt the rack into the 5 factory mounting holes on each side of the roof. This design allows the addition of this roof rack without drilling or modification to your vehicle. The crossbars are made from a 2″ x 1″ aluminum extrusion that has a top facing T-slot channel. This offers numerous solutions for tie-down options, cargo security, and the addition of accessories such as tool mounts or lighting. All product will come in black. All assembly hardware comes in a black zinc finish so as to match a black paint or powder coat finish on the final product. The rack also includes a 1/8″ 5052 aluminum plate wind deflector to help with aerodynamics and prevent wind noise. Options for integrating a light bar are available. See the Extras/Add Ons page.

The rack is completely modular in that you choose how your rack is configured. Refer to the gallery for an example of standard configurations we have used based on different load sizes and weights. You can also choose the number of crossbars you assemble your rack with. The rack comes standard with 6 cross bars for cargo and 1 additional for mounting of a wind deflector, lightbar or combination of the two.

Weight capacity of the racks varies based on the number of crossbars used and their configuration. We expect all consumers to use good judgment and common sense with the loads they plan to carry using these rack systems."

Nearly there! I still need to know the length of one of the extruded aluminum cross bars to determine what length to order online.

Uptop overland states the width of their rack is 50" but I'm not sure if that's the cross bar length or the cross bar plus the laser cut side peices w/ hardware overall

@upTOPoverland would you care to share that information?

I’m interested to see what you come up with. I’ve been wanting to do something similar.

Looks like the same bars can be picked up for about 2/3rds the price ordering from a site like 8020. In the long run OP is not going to save much by making his own, but if he has the means to make one custom to his liking then why not?!

Just buy your extrusion off Tnutz. It’s like half the price of what all the rack sellers charge in some cases, and they will tap the ends and customize your machining if you want.

Tnutz also sells the bars precut. I believe they are 47" for the cab rack.

Thank you! I really appreciate you helping me/us out. I'll try my best to pay it forward and you can bet I'll look at doing business with you in the future, I'm just a little broke at the time being but have a lot of time. Cheers.

Prinsu design is nice and if I could afford paying that kind of money for a rack I would have. Honestly, UpTopOverland would be getting my money first because of how helpful they were by offering up their dimensions. I'm simply fortunate enough to have access to sheet metal for free at work so all hardware included ordered from 8020 I'm at around $230 USD which is a heck of a deal and within my means. We are all here to share our ideas and appreciate each others efforts, some of us just have to be creative about it. Also, no I absolutely have no intention of starting a side gig with this lol, not to mention how legally screwed I'd be by openly asking for their dimensions...

I'm not sure when I'll get around to the write up for the roof rack or if it even happens but if I can get it done in the next month I'll post it up. Thanks everyone for your help and input!

To be fair to Prinsu I did tag @upTOPoverland for their dimensions so they were able to chime in. That being said, I see nothing but great support from the Uptop team on here and other channels

It's probably going to be a little while before I get the roof rack build going unless I need a roof rack in the near future. I got busy at work. I'm still trying to plan out how I will make the side rails that the extruded aluminum attach to. I have access to a plasma cutter and welder but those don't get anywhere close to a finished quality product like that of the professionally cnc cut pieces you would get with a prinsu or uptop overland product.

I'll check them out and maybe get them for when I need them in the future. That seems like a good deal! Do you know what length the prinsu rails are cut to off hand?

Thanks rnish! It's surprising to me that the prinsu racks are 3 inches narrower that uptop overlands?

Just realized uptop overland deleted their post with the specs, the specs are still in a quote above for anyone that is interested.
