I have just received an Atoto S8 Ultra Gen 2, and tried a bench test; applied +12V to yellow and (-) to black wire. The unit does not power up when pressing on/off. Power consumption upon connecting power is 600-700mA then over 20 secs drops to about 7mA and stays there indefinitely. This is the SECOND unit with this behavior. Am I doing something wrong or are now two randomly picked units defective?

Are you also applying power to the red accy wire?

So after the hiccup with the bench test, I managed to install it into the truck. Have placed the GPS antenna already to its definitive location mid up windshield, behind rear view mirror; the 4G and WiFi antennas are in temporary positions for now. I have two questions:

    1. Where can I exit the rear view camera wire from the cabin? I'd rather not drill a new hole, but can I use exiting any existing hole, in the firewall, back wall or any other location?
    2. To activate the rear view camera, it need a reverse signal. How can I obtain that from the gear box?

    Thank you in advance.

For the camera, easiest way is to get under the truck and just look for rubber grommets. There is typically one under the driver and passenger seats that can be pretty easy to locate. Slit a small X in it with a razor blade and pop your wire through.

for backup signal, head to this thread and look at the pictures a few posts down. I think this is from a ‘95, but it’s probably still the same for an ‘01. All the wires are over in the driver kick panel

Thank you will look for those grommets.
Any thoughts on getting the reverse signal to turn the camera on? Am thinking of drawing signal (if possible) from the gear box but putting in parallel with it a rocker switch to be able to turn it on even when driving forward. Any ideas on how to draw the signal from the manual gear box?

Is there a way to use the stock backup camera with the ATOTO S8 units?
Do you need to purchase a CANBUS adapter?
How did you get stearing wheel controls to work?
