ATF T-IV Equivalent

Can someone recommend a T-IV equivalent or a non-Toyota T-IV?

Are you sure? I don't see where this meets JWS 3309 specs.

Do you think this will "mix" with the Toyota fluid as in a drain/fill?

 

I am sure many have done just this, if it were me, I would perform a complete DIY flush.

 

My concern is I bought the truck with 64k miles on it and it now has ~254k. I know I haven't done any transmission service since I have owned it (no issues) and I have read that doing a flush/fill at this point could be detrimental.

 

I understand, for piece of mind just buy the Toyota T-IV.

 

I found the Toyota T-IV on Amazon for $6.83/qt for a case of 12. Not a bad price.

 

toyota t-iv, just did it on an 02 with 195k miles. 3 4hr trips and i only feel the previous issues.

 

What did it do per say? What were you're previous issues?

 

rough shifts after driving for a while. I still had plan on doing it anyways because i had also installed a cooler

 

Have you ignored the other fluids in the vehicle too?

'issues' shouldn't be the reason for periodic maintenance.

I'd just get whichever fluid I had easiest access too, likely the Valvoline. Then I'd do 4 drain/fills over a 1500 mile period (0, 500, 1000, 1500) to slowly clean the unit and refresh additives.

And keep my fingers crossed.

Then I'd go to 30k drain fill intervals.

I also did a pan drop and replaced almost 7 quarts, and the filter. next time I'll do a drain/fill and probably only use 2-3 quarts

 

Wondering why a pan drop would release more fluid than a drain? I know I'm missing something...........

Is the drain plug not in the bottom of the pan? (never worked with one of these)

exactly, the plug is about a half inch or so up on the pan. plus the pan slopes slightly forward holding more fluid.

I've done 2 pan drops total in the 154k and a couple drain/fill.

 

Drain/fill (just removing the bolt to drain and then filling back up) takes 4 quarts on the nose (2003 double cab 3.4L). I do a drain and fill about every two years. The dipstick says changing the fluid is not necessary under normal conditions..... but that sounded like a lot of bull.
