That's full synthetic, ideally you just want II/ III (non-synthetic):

It works just fine. Been using Valvoline Maxlife ATF for years with no problem. As long as the rear of the bottle says it is compatible with Dex3 then it is good. If it doesn't say anything don't trust it.

Pretty sure all Dex 3 is fully synthetic.

The Toyota dealers in my area sell Mobil ATF D/M under a Toyota SKU superseding Toyota-branded Dexron III. In fact, the dealers sell it for cheaper than the big-box stores.

Fluid labeled "Dexron/Mercon" from other brands would work as well:

In my experience the PS system isn't too picky. Heck, lube places put regular clear PS fluid in toyotas all the time and it's not like it causes problems immediately. I'm recommending it though, just stick with a regular ATF

Believe it's synthetic blend at best.

I'm cautious because the Tacoma steering rack is known to leak. Using a more modern low-viscosity fluid like Valvoline Max-Life, Dexron VI, etc. might encourage leaking.

What he said.. full synthetic isn't always best for these 'older' gen trucks.

^Yep it's a low-viscosity fluid (compatible with Mercon LV, Dexron-VI, and Toyota WS). If your steering rack isn't leaking now (seepage would be visible on the bellows), it may start leaking with this fluid.

The leak happens at the steering rack bellows, not under the hood:

I bought Mobil D/M at my local Toyota dealer parts counter.

These two Valvoline or STP fluids are similar, available at Auto Zone:
