It's been a while since this thread was started so I wanted to offer over where I ended up with my DRLs. I should say where I excitedly and very enthusiastically ended up. As I love my high-intensity white/Amber VLED DRLS. They are outstanding in quality and function. When I am in a traffic line with my blinker on I can see reflective signs flashing an 1/8 mile ahead of me. And yet they have a power drop feature that allows you to be considerate of night time on coming traffic etc. If you are looking for a truly modern deep amber / white DRL alternative you should check these out, they are one of my must-have mods. Pic or video coming.

No hyper flash, VLED has all of that in hand with in-line resisters, etc in the kit. These are not your run-of-the-mill Chinese LEDs. They are truly stand-alone quality and customer service. Ask for Jake or Eli at 1-844-640-3813 at https://www.vleds.com/ You will love their products. Use caution with the high output reverse (back up) lights on gen two though. No harm done but my truck did not like them etc.

Do they offer amber/amber ? Meaning amber DRL then amber turn signal.

Yes, you can set them to run either white or amber and they flash amber turn signals. They run at 1800LM day and high beam and then reduce output on low beam by 90% so as not to blind oncoming traffic. They really are stand-alone quality and function.

Yes they are pricy, one of those, GOTS TA PAY TO PLAY things. I'm a working guy myself. So it stung turning loose of that much cabbage for a true no real need indulgence.

But I must say, I wasn't disappointed with build quality or performance. Easily one of my top three mods. It even makes you feel safer knowing no one has DRLS or turn singles that stand out like these. Best of all they do not offend by design. You will see if you decide to take the plunge. I will be 15 cars back at a light and can see the signs reflecting my signal. They trans formed my TACO

So I got my Official Toyota OEM bulbs in from Toyotapartsdeal.com and they are sylvania 4157 NAK also.

    OEM trn signal bulb.jpg

Unfortunately I'm an idiot and didn't have them snapped in all the way. The good news is this time I took the sockets off the wire loom (they unplug easily), sat down and took my time polishing the brass in the sockets and bent all the tabs back out for more tension. Followed up with dielectric grease. Really had to push hard to get the bulbs seated, but they are all burning for the moment.

The two filaments inside are very different. One is high power at 27 Watts (DRL/turn), the other is low power at 8 Watts (intended for running/parking lights). Each filament is wired diagonally across the base. In this diagram, viewing the bottom of the lamp, the flat sides of the base are on the sides and the narrow parts of the base are top and bottom. One filament is connected to A and D, the other to B and C.
    AB
    CD

It doesn't matter if an incandescent lamp is inserted AB on top or CD on top. In either position, the same diagonally connected filament is connected to the same terminals and incandescent lamps don't care about polarity. However, some LED replacements for the 2nd gen DRL/turn lamps won't work if polarity is reversed and LED replacements for those lamps also have to be compatible with the CK wired front DRL/turn lamp sockets in 2nd gen Tacomas.

The 8 Watt filament in the stock 2nd gen is not used for anything. It's deliberately left disconnected. Don't be an "I need MOAR POWER!" fool and connect it to turn on with the DRLs. Toyota had to replace a bunch of headlight assemblies on 2nd gen Tacomas for free because the single 28 Watt filament was enough to melt the plastic lens.

The stock DRL lamps in our trucks are amber. The "NA" on the end of some part numbers for such lamps means "Natural Amber." As far as I know, one could use white lamps instead. I suspect they would run cooler. But check local laws to make sure it's OK for DRL/front turn lamps to be white in your area.

6”rough country lift, 35” bfg mud terrain, step bars, home made solid 5" bull bar frame mounted top and bottom with gussets ( used an excavator to completely suspend the truck in the air held only by the bull bar), 180k, no rust, no leaks, no cel's, no issues. 4wd conversion with front and rear e-lockers.
I just took an old led screw in 120v warm led light bulb of the fancy smaller style (like for an appliance or something, the smaller screw base for candelabras so it says). And took the led aluminum board out, tossed the cap and crap inside the screw base so it was just an aluminum board with led's and supporting smd resistors. Plugged in a 200v 1600 μF cap with a small 10 Ω 1/4watt wire wound resistor as a bleed down and mounted it directly on the corner lens where the old bulb socket would twist into. I did however use a rubber gasket in betwen so plastic wouldnt melt. Used heat shrink over the components and tied + to + and - to -... bright as i want it to be.. not overkill, not super white, match the 20 year old crazed up yellowed headlight fixtures.. wired where they stay on with the driving lights when headlights are on and when i hit the turn signal theyll flash accordingly. Since i used a good size 1/4 watt bleed down resistor for the cap the crack mode blinkers dont happen.. free fitty and looks normal.. should last according to the phillips box, 10 years... so i give em a few months before an led poops out and i go to the actual parts store for a proper bulb..

Figured it was a neat little project to share because i was bored and my bulbs both got ripped out on a bush in the mud.. i made sure to replant that bush again though.. with my rear tires.. fyi itd probably be easier to just get 12v led bulbs and a quarter watt smaller resistor and youll be fine with the hyper blink.. but technically even if you put in an led and it goes crazy blink mode, both the front and back will still blink as well as your indicator on the cluster so maybe youll like the super blink signaling.. itll just look like you really wanna go left or right like ya gotta pee or something.. ツ
