My 2004 double cab came with an ARE truck cap. After my fist big cross country trip I am realizing I need the type of truck cap with access panels on the side. Has anyone every tried to swap windows in a cap like this?

ARE does not seem so friendly to get parts from. There are not any dealers in NYC I can go to for parts either. I don't know if it is even possible to do this kinda of transplant.

In the images you can see the truck cap I am currently running. In the second image you can see the side windows I want to switch out to. I could do glass or hard windows.

Anyone have any experience doing this kind of thing?

I've read about some people thinking about the same thing but I can't remember anyone actually doing it because of the lack of parts and such. Would love to see someone actually follow through with it! GL

I talked to this website tonight. They say it is possible. I have to pull the serial # off the shell and that will tell them what window size I have. If win doors are available in that size it should a clean swap.

In my ARE CX, I swapped one of my slider windows for a "windoor" last year. Went to the dealer that I bought the cap from, and since I had purchased 3 caps from him, he knocked the price down to $200 OTD for the swap. Ridiculous I know. But had I just gone there and paid full pop, it would have ran near the $275 mark before tax. They are proud of their shit. But I do love my ARE, has handled some major abuse with no stress marks or leaks to date.
