Hi, 2 years ago, Someone left an ARE truck cap for a 95-04 Toyota Tacoma at my daughter’s house and never came back for it. She needs to get it out of her garage ASAP. We have no idea of it’s value. We are in Central CT.

    Any advice much appreciated!

Cap is upside down in pic. Has been garaged entire time.

If it needs to go put it in your yard with a for sale sign it will be gone by morning.

I am guessing no idea of what happened to the person that left it there or valid reasons for not looking.

Truck caps are a fickle animal. When you want one, their expensive as hell. When you want to get rid one, it's hard to give 'em away...:notsure:
Put it in the yard with an "OFFER" sign & take the first one.

Sold one very similar to that for $200 in less than a day on FB marketplace earlier this year. Could of gotten more but needed it gone.

Correct, we don’t know What happened to the person who left it, and had no name or number. Guy came to pick up some furniture she was selling, needed to take off the cap, asked if he could come back later to get the cap, never came back!

I paid $220 for a shell a couple months ago. I probably would have paid $300-400, as I had been looking for one in my area for about at least a year. The local shops gave me quotes in the $500-$700 range for a used one.

Decent truck caps for 1st generation Tacomas aren't always easy to find, doesn't always fit correctly depending if you have a regular cab, Xtra cab, or a double cab/short bed due to either the cab shape or bed lengths. I'm sure you can sell it for $500 or less online especially at this time of the year.

Just paid 400.00 and a 5 1/2 hr drive to get one. Not saying you’ll find someone as gullable as me. But someone will buy it.

I paid 250 and a 4hr round trip myself. it wasn't in great shape but it was better than what I had and ARE is easier to find parts

I would say if it's painted, has clamps, and is in good shape list or ask $350, then go from there. never hurts to ask for more :)

It’s not a z series because the inside is showing fiberglass and isn’t covered with a carpet material. I purchased mine for $600.00 with an hour drive and had to paint it to match my truck. I then visited my local ARE dealer to get a key for it, I asked him if I had gotten a deal. He looked it up and a z series for a double cab, which is what I’ve got, sells new $2400.00 installed. ARE also lost basically there entire parts diagrams of any cap starting with 00 as the serial #. The dealer would not order me any parts for mine. I had to contact ARE directly and send them measurements and pictures to get part numbers to then return to the same dealer to order. It was a pain! It’s still worth a solid $400.00 if the paint isn’t messed up, without a key. I think there is only 20 different keys that it could be, sort of like the tool box “ch” keys.

Its one of the "nicer" types of shells and should easily be worth $200-300. I recently bought one just about like it for $200 off the facebook marketplace.
Of course the guy was pretty excited that he was able to sale it and get it out of his way.

Been there 2 yrs and now your in a rush to get rid of it, didn’t cost you anything but space and that wasn’t important either, stick it out front and put free, it will be gone or sit on for another few weeks trying to sell.

That is a good point. You could sell it, and get some easy money. No matter what you get out of it, it’s 100% profit. That being said, it also depends on your moral compass as a person. This time of year, it would be nice to find someone who really wanted it or needs it for some reason, and give it to them. Your reward would then come in the form of a good feeling of doing the right thing. Either way, if it were at my house the guy that owns it would show up the next day looking for it! Every time I’ve sold something that I didn’t have anything invested in, it’s come back to bite me in the ass in one form or another. Lol

    OME and worth every penny.
Should fit a Ranger also. Put the measurements in the ad. Let people decide. If one popped up near my I'd give 200 easy. More if it matched paint.
