Are there 6 lug pattern 2nd Gen 2WD Pre-Runners!?

Everywhere I look, there is a definitive answer that 4WD Tacos have 6 lug, and 2WD have 5 lug wheels. I am certain I have a Pre-Runner 2WD, even though the original owner likely put a different tailgate on it. I do not have a 4WD selector in the Cab, and I am certain I don't have 4WD components when I've been under my car. I have had my wheels in to be balanced multiple times with issues and no shop ever mentioned I have spacers/adapters to me. So do I just have a 6 lug tire somehow and one of the owners swapped them? I can't see why they would swap to 6 lug just to keep the ugly steel wheels on them. I am looking to get 4-runner wheels and hoping they will direct fit, thank you!

All Prerunners are 2WD and 6 lug (like the 4x4s). The other 2WD 5 lug trucks you are referring to are the base models.

 

6-lug wheels aren't specific to 4x4 trucks. The pre-runners are very similar to the 4x4 trucks with the exception of the loss of 4wd. The 5-lug base model is a "significantly" (by Toyota standards) different platform entirely.

 

Later model 4runner rims don't fit, avoid 2022+ But those look like older model save to buy.

Almost all 6 lugs fit 6 lugs. Don't worry about the drive wheels.

I forgot to mention there is another 2WD model called the X-Runner that is a 5 lug as well.

 

I should also ask then, will these be easier to balance and deal with than the ones I have that I believe are “lug centric”? I can’t seem to get anyone to balance them as well as I’d expect a vehicle to handle on the highway without some minor shaking

 

Prerunners are just RWD with V6 and 4WD suspension. The 5 luggers are all 4 bangers except for xrunners which can have a V6 with 5 lugs due to lowered suspension.
