Are the TRD Pro coils and shocks worth buying new?

Ok guys and gals... Have a question for you.. The TRD Pro Eibach TRD tuned coils and shocks (reservoir) are pretty decent I would think. They are 2.5 fronts and 2.0 in the rear. I can get them brand new for $1400. Is it worth it?

    (From the Dealer rep)
I wanted to make sure that we answered all of your questions on the TRD Pro suspension kit. The ride quality in this kit is superior to any other lift system that I have driven. The main reason is beside the lift in suspension height, you also gain suspension travel. Below is what’s included in the kit that Toyota installs to build TRD Pro:

    • 2.5-in. front shocks and 2.0-in. rears with remote (piggyback) reservoirs

    • Zinc finish with multi-layer coating for extreme surface durability

    • TRD tuned Eibach® coil springs with custom rates

    • Engineered by TRD with unique components and tuned by TRD engineers to provide better ride quality and off-road performance

It is available in our warehouse and we can discount the kit to you for $1,469 Plus tax. Would you like me to get that coming for you? Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

I wouldn't. Some people pay more for that "TRD" thing and love having it, though.

As I value your opinion, I was hoping to see someone with a TRD Pro to give their thoughts on the suspension or factual data, good or bad. The Pro set-up is in fact a reservoir system, so that's a plus but just how good the system is over 5100's and OME 887's is what I'm after. I do however feel the same way as you!

5100s don't compare to a coilover system, in any way.

You need to compare to Icon/Fox/ADS/King/ToyTec/Bilstein 6112s.

It is really up to you. I did, though I went with the Baja Pro instead after talking to numerous people that drove both. The Baja uses stiffer front coils and is valved a little differently to provide a sportier street ride (less roll and nose dive).

you are exactly right DC, for what I would use my truck for I dont think I need Kings or ICONS or even reservoir shocks for that matter but wanted to look into the benefits of a Toyota tunes set-up if it is even worth it. CRASH, thanks for the heads up and info, I read your post.. what was the lean you were talking about?

$1400 is a good price for that setup.
Is it the new part number with top hats fully assembled?

Siblue, I dont have the answer for that one, I assume so but then again assumption gets all of us in trouble from time to time. It does say on the info he sent back that the front shock/coil are together for that part number.

I got minor taco lean when I removed the overloads with the 1.5" Icon AAL install. (Not actually part of the Pro kit, but pairs with it nicely as I wanted to maintain some rake). Isn't as noticeable now. The truck drives amazing though.

Edit: A similar non-TRD tuned version can be had running Bilstein 6112 and 5165s, which are the bodies the TRD units are based on.

I'm not fully understanding the lean you are talking about with removing the overloads and installing the 1.5" ICONs, lean meaning left to right not rake front to back? If you bear with me, why did you get lean when adding the ICON AAL?

I'm this close to pulling the trigger myself on the trd pro suspension . I've been back and forth in my mine wether to get Pro or Icon/King. I just can't decide if it's worth all the extra money for the icon/kings for my needs. (Light/moderate off roading). We're talking an extra 1000 bucks for the coil overs...

Taco lean is the driver side lean (left/right) Tacomas are prone to due to the driver and fuel tank being on the same side of the truck, with nothing to balance out the other side. Taking the overloads off seemed to make this more pronounced for whatever reason. Most lifts including the Pro and Baja kits account for it by adding extra lift to the driver front coil.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Do any of these vendors give the lb or kg rating of the springs? Tell you what the OE spring rating is so you can compare some numbers?

Explain what an increase in spring rating means?

Do they give the lb/kg performance range of the shock they want to sell with a particular spring?

Do they define if a high $ shock is rebuildable?

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
I purchased the Bilstein 6112 shocks and coils pre-built from @HeadStrong Off-Road with the taco lean spacer installed. For the rear I went to toytec for the specific Fox 2.0 rear shock that is good for 2 - 3" and got the 2" procomp add a leaf. In the future I will get bigger tires than my 265/75 16 and lift the coil perch on the front shock and swap my rear pack for the Dakar for a 3" in lift. I believe Camburg even has an extended version of the 6112 now to get that extra droop, but then you'd want new UCAs.
This way I can adjust easily in the future without having to re-buy anything.
I have a plate bumper, skid, sliders and topper +~200lb in the back. Rides great, minimal nose dive and roll. Trying out the front stabilizer delete this weekend.
    My 2c.

go for the 6112's they are imo better than the pro stuff as they are ride height adjustable.

That stated they still are not a true coil over like ICON / FOX / King stuff....

Check out the additional information on the PRO suspension in this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-pro-2-inch-lift.400481/. If buying the PRO kit through Toyota, the front struts are pre-assembled w/ tophats and the kit includes the aluminum brackets to mount the remote reservoirs to the frame for the rears. Starting adding those extras to the price of 6112/5160s and the price is not out of line.

I am very happy with my purchase of the TRD Pro Suspension. Doesn't require UCAs, handles backroads and pavement well, no clunks or rattles like some OME setups. I had the OME setup(885s on OME Strutus) on my 2011 for about a month before it was totaled, and I prefer the TRD suspension.

To be fair, no 2" lifts require UCAs.

They are all coilovers. The factory front suspension and any aftermarket direct replacement for a Tacoma is a coil spring over shock, or "coilover." Icon, Fox, and King are just fully adjustable coilovers.

personally i view a coil over as a shock with top and bottom pivot points and a spring that mounts to the shock itself (ala fox / icon /king). The setup that is stock has a strut assembly with a bottom spring seat but the top spring seat is on the frame and not on the shock.

    Po-tay-toes po-tot-toes.
