Are eBay and Amazon tail lights the same as OEM?

I'm in need of a new right tail light, and I'm wondering if the eBay or Amazon brands are the same as OEM? They looks the same but I'd like to hear from someone who may have purchased. I'm looking for one for a 2017 Sport.

 

If they’re from a Toyota dealer, yes. If it’s a third party… flip a coin.

 

Do you have Craigslist in Canada? If so, check there as they show up a lot down here in the colonies. Amazon or eBay will most likely be Chinese made and lower quality than OEM.

We have Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace which is similar to craigslist. There seems to be lots of the weird name brand stuff for $100, but I'd rather go used OEM if I can find one.

You'd probably be waaaay better off getting a used OEM light. You can probably find a new take-off fairly soon online. Or you can usually get a new one at about 25% off online.

 

Oddly all the Amazon reviews state they look exactly like the original.

 

I bought oil plug washers and a header rail off Amazon in the past. All branded as OEM, and packaged like it too. None of it actually was.

 

They may look like it. But quality is the question.

 

How did you come to the conclusion it wasn’t?

 

The washers were obvious, having bought some in the past. Returned them immediately.

The rail slot was too wide. After doing some investigating, it became clear that it was a common factor among counterfeits.

 

if the price is too good probably and aftermarket replica. i bought a set of headlight for my 2019 for about $225. they looked the same in the pictures. when i got them home, they really where chinesse knock off. and it was not the Blacked out version the TRD sport with DRLs came with. at least i was smart enough to buy the pair so at least they look the same and is not a chrome and a black one.

 

eBay/Amazon/Keystone/Rock Auto tail lights are not OEM, but will provide satisfactory performance. Imagine getting a collision repair done at an independent body shop. They'd use a similar aftermarket tail light that looks the same. For a 2017 TRD Sport RH light, search with Partslink code TO2801198. Partslink is the network used by body shops to search and order parts for collision repairs.

 

EBAY AND AMAZON dont make auto parts

 

That's nothing. Toyota doesn't make many (any?) either. Including oil or oil filters.

And none of the TRD badged stuff was actually a result of their race program.

I’ve had other stuff I’ve bought on Amazon and was pretty sure it was counterfeit, even through they were the “seller”.
