Question for you california natives.. as I was waiting at the dealership I was shooting the shit with a salesman when we got on the topic of gas. He mentiones that Arco gas is bad for vehicles.. I ignored his statement and thought i would stir it up on here.. I've used arco 87 since the vehicle was purchased and had no problems. What brand of gas do you guys throw in your tacos?

What ever is cheapest, usually circkle K. Before that I used arco with no problems. One of my buddies services many gas stations and he told me it's all pretty much the same stuff either way. Arco gas isn't going to destroy your fuel system no worries, their pumps get their filters changed regularly so I wouldn't bat an eye to throw it in my truck.

Independent gas stations get their gas from many sources, so do name brand stations, it may not be particularly from their refinery, depending on distance and location...large urban areas like the San Francisco area have several refineries inside the bay so name brand gas stations may get their own gas. Out in the boondocks, gas will come usually from the nearest distributor, which may or may not be name brand gas.........there is nothing the matter with Arco gas....forge on...

Yeah I usually just put the cheapest 87 gas I can find... the salesman seemed so genuine though. He actually believes arco gas harms vehicles.

I did look in the manual and it was considered a top tier gas

That's a good point.. at the sametime I do wonder why some gas is significantly cheaper than others if it's all the same stuff.

Did he happen to mention ethanol in the conversation? there's your demon if you want to look at that way, it will take out any small engine you own, especially a new one. When it comes to your taco I don't think you have to worry, if you do use a good additive.

I use a top tier brand 87 regular, and stick to the same brand because I look for and want consistency in the formula.
It is important to me that the right additives in the right quantities be used consistently across every tank full.

Most modern vehicles since the late ’80’s use adoptive learning ecm’s for better engine performance, and it will adopt to your driving, type gas, air filter restriction, etc.
But my feeling is that my engine performance will be more predictable, long lasting and trouble free with the same consistent fuel formula.

Having said that, I don’t think a brand such as Arco, Is better or worst than any other, just so long as I could get it consistently and is readily available where I travel and at a reasonable price.
And no, I don't use it, I use another brand.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

First off, you said you were shootin the shit with a salesman, theres your problem! Arco is good, they are an American oil company. I dont use it for 2 reasons. 1. They only take cash, Arco card or debit card with a fee. Not for me. 2. Theres always a line or issue #1 comes to mind.

I use Shell or Chevron. What the sales guy may be thinking of Arco was the first to use Methonal in the gas and a lot of the older cars with a carburetor had their floats dissolve. Kept me busy rebuilding carbs, now all newer cars can handle it and most all gas is blended.

Chevron FTW. Shell only If there isn't a Chevron nearby. I'm picky like that.
