This is likely a simple question and likely has been asked....I’ve looked here and tons of other online forums and can’t find an answer that makes me not second guess myself...

I have my arb twin compressor setup in my Taco and the beginning of wiring ran. Just for cosmetic purposes along with not having a replacement fuse when in BFE for whatever reason, can I eliminate (cut out completely) the two supplied arb 40 amp fuses to the battery and instead run circuit breakers? Also running a switch pros 9100 though I doubt that makes a difference Thanks to the pros!image.jpgimage.jpg

Never eliminate a fuse especially if the manufacturer supplied them with the equipment

Thank you. To build on my knowledge, why would you not want to eliminate a fuse if you were going to replace with something equal or better quality?

Absolutely no reason not to use a circuit breaker. As long as the rating is correct, you're good to go. A circuit breaker is just a mechanical fuse.

As long as you replace it with two 40a breakers it should be fine. You do not want to run a single 80a breaker as the twin has two built in relays hence the two fuses.

To wire it up on the SP, you can cut out the plug off the small harness and leave just the purple and black wires to be extended...purple goes to SP as it is the trigger for the internal relays, and black is ground (obviously)...the twin is super easy to wire to the SP if you aren't planning on lockers. Cutting off the plug makes for a much cleaner look rather than having to hide the remainder of the harness that is supplied from the factory.

Oh yea, I was going to run 2 separate 40amp breakers. I’m one of those guys that even when 99% sure I know the answer, I look it up out of curiosity and for every one thing you read, you read another conflicting article. Then it turns into a week long wormhole of research Thank you for your input! I ended up buying the SP wiring harness when I ordered the compressor. I saw online that rats nest of a wiring harness for the air lockers. I don’t plan on running lockers for awhile, if ever. So what you suggested is exactly what I want to do. Do you run the twin arb? What do you think of it? This is my first onboard air setup ever so if you have any suggestions I love the feedback!

I had it, but honestly never even used it lol. Sold it recently due to I'm parting out my truck to sell it. You'll be happy I'm sure. It's great from what everyone says.

Like I said, if you want to run your own wiring to turn on the ARB from the SP, just cut the plug and run it as such (purple to SP and black to your ground bar)...you can use any of the 8 spots on the SP there isn't any real amount of amperage for the purple wire since it's only the trigger wire for the relays.

I asked this same question to Overland Equipped when I got their power management system. I have the same compressor. They also use a Blue Sea fuse block. They told me that the fuse block maximums are 30A per circuit and 100A per block. So the 40A fuses from the compressor would be too high. Safer to wire the compressor straight to the battery.

I read it as you’re just going to take away fuses

Haha, nononono, just swap out the arb in line fuses for the same amp circuit breakers.

I wasn’t going to run the 2 power wires to the blue sea fuse block. You are 100% correct that it isn’t rated that high. I am still going to run the compressor straight to the battery, but rather than using the 40amp in line fuses provided on the arb harness, eliminating those in lines and putting in 40amp circuit breakers. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about my dumbass not having a spare fuse in the middle of nowhere when I need one. I could then just pop the breaker back on.

Wow! haha, I was definitely not awake this morning. I totally missed the CB part. I would think that would be fine and a pretty clever idea. I'm guessing all the manufacturers opt for fuses instead due to costs.
