I was able to squeeze an ARB Twin Compressor and the ARB 1 Gallon Air Tank in the passenger corner under the hood of my 2016 TRD Off-Road, Manual Transmission, which was previously a huge empty space begging for an accessory. I made a slight modification to the Slee Off-Road 2016+ Tacoma Air compressor bracket. These pictures are from just after the installation, later I wired the compressor directly to my sPod.

I'm fairly confident this custom modification only works for TRD Off-Road Manual Transmission Models due to the variations of the ABS and Crawl control clutter under the hoods of the other models. I've looked under the hood of a few other models including the Automatic transmission models and a TRD Sport Manual Transmission, all of which did not have the big empty space that I have in the passenger corner.

Here are a few hints for anyone looking to do the same:

I drilled two holes in the Slee Mount as shown so that the tank was nearly resting against the leg support of the Slee bracket that mounts to the fender when in the truck. I only used 2 of the 4 threaded mounting holes of the 1 Gallon tank.

Next I removed the 8 bolts attaching the mounting plate from the twin ARB compressor and drilled a hole in the mounting plate for the head of one of two bolts that was being used to attach the 1 Gallon Tank.

This picture shows how close the bolts securing the ARB bracket to the Slee Bracket are to the 1-Gal Tank, and how close the 1-Gal Tank is to the support leg of the Sleep Bracket.

After bolting the mounting plates together and the 1 gallon tank, I re-installed the twin air compressor using the original 8 bolts. I drilled one additional hole in the Slee Mount with a hole saw in order to mount the air chuck. I then attached the air lines. All of this work was done on a bench outside of the truck, then I installed the entire assembly (Slee Bracket + ARB Twin Compressor + ARB 1 Gal Air Tank) into the truck.

I moved the horn slightly as well, otherwise no modifications under the hood, just followed the Slee Bracket Mounting Instructions using the Slee supplied hardware.

I left out a lot of details about measurements etc, but I wanted folks to know this is possible and AWESOME!

Man that looks awesome. Exact setup I want in my truck but I have a OR w/auto. Do you have a diagram on how to connect the compressor to the tank? I'm trying to do it myself but don't know where to start. Thanks

I had the same big empty space in my automatic TRD OR. I think all OR and PRO models have that big space.

I didn't do the 1gal tank, but that's an awesome idea and might try to do the same thing.

Nice, but that is where the second battery goes. ;)

    Looks like off grid engineering.

I prefer the split system, putting the second battery on the passenger side.

You can virtually mount the ARB compressor up front next to the washer fluid.

Interesting setup. I have to look under my hood to see if I have the same space available. What ARB compressor model?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I have a question regarding this setup and the ARB tank. Besides being able to us power tools will having the tank speed up the airing up process?

To some extent. Depends on the tank size and how much you aired down. Eventually that compressor will kick on and take over.

Thanks for the into. Thinking of going with the ARB or Viair (much cheaper) 1 gallon tank.

    Not much stock left.
Yea, it’s like putting butter on toast. I have the same setup minus the 1 gallon tank, and it airs up four 285/75’s nicely.

I’m thinking I’ll add the tank where the spare tire used to be.

It will speed things up, but not a ton. The main benefit is the buffer the tank provides. The first tire will certainly be faster since you'll be pulling form a 1gal tank at full pressure, but once it drains down it'll only inflate as fast as the compressor is pumping (pretty fast with an ARB dual though). It'll also build a bit of a buffer when you're walking between wheels. Without the tank, the compressor will just pressurize the air line and stop running.

There's really no downside to running the tank as long as you have space.
