AR-15 BS Thread

Someone told me that one time, and it made sense to me at the time. So that's what I've been going with. Regardless, I'm still going to prefer my 9mm for self defense.

It depends a lot on the environment you are hunting, but I say get a scope. I've seen some scope mounts like the Burris P.E.P.R. (or something like that) that have picatinny rails on top. You could maybe put something on top for closer range. I'm not sure how that would work though.





You might could also get a QD scope mount. However, my advice would be to get another AR. One for close and one for long range.

With such a small caliber, you need to be a little more accurate at 300 yards. I (personally) wouldn't go smaller than 3-9x40 on a scope.

 

The thing with this set up that I would be concerned with is how far above the barrel the secondaries are. Like mounting an optic on the old school M16 style handle. It just gets thrown off because of the distance. My first AR is a DPMS with the handle, I never could get it adjusted right and just took it off.
Now that my primary weapon is complete I am going to get rid of that upper and rebuild it into a short barrel gun.

 

I think I've resigned it to being a 200 yard max rifle. I can just get a larger caliber rifle for hog, those bastards are tough.

 

What?!? Hell no, get a Trijicon 4x, that would work fine. 5.56 is a great hog round, plus you have lots of ammo to put them down or take out a whole group of them. Just hit them in the right spot.

But, yes, I whole heartedly agree, they are tough as nails.

 

if I ever have to shoot someone in self defense, I'll just throw away my gun and tell the cops I threw the bullets super hard at him.

I am a huge fan of the Bushnell TRS-25, I have them on all of my AR's.

 

I just picked a Bushnell up and threw it on! Can't wait to test it out.

 

What distances are you shooting?

 

A 3-9x with BDC reticle and 45° offset BUIS would be perfect.

 

6.8 makes very dead pigs. Still complete pass through at 250 yards no problem.

LMT makes an upper in 6.8. I dont need to do anything but swap out the upper, which takes about 2 minutes. Slam in a 6.8 mag, rack it and I am off and running. They even give you a torque wrench with the propper bit to do it.

I think that is my next purchase, put on an ACOG and I am set.
