Hey everyone. Finally got myself a Tacoma and looking for places to go. Any recommendations on Apps or online sites that list locations, difficulty levels, and trails that allow camping.
    Thanks in advance.

ONx, free roam, garmin earthmate, national forrest vistor map app, gaia, free camping, the dyrt, google maps. These are all apps I have.

I only really do flat rough roads, no rock crawling or offshoots. For me its just the adventure, sight seeing and finding a good camp spot to cook and sleep. Trails offroad and many other sources will show offshoots, obstacles. You gotta decide what youre into to be prepared. Get a garmin if youre gonna do remote camping like me. ofc recovery gear.

Got myself the gaia paid subscription last week for my trip to death valley. To sum it up:

over the weekend when I didn’t have cell service, gaia allowed me to view maps and navigate where I needed to go. Happy with the app.. except for the yearly fee. You can view all maps on it for free on a pc but not on a phone.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be checking them out. I'm not looking for difficult trails, I've got a 4x2, but I do want to go to some scenic places and do a little camping.

If you're new to the scene but an avid camper, you've already won half the battle.

But if you're new to both, listen up.

Please take the time to learn about off-road etiquette, as well as camping etiquette.

Understand that these places are becoming harder and harder to find, not because people are secretive about it (even though some are, myself included), but because people find out about them and completely trash these places.

More and more of these roads and campgrounds or dispersed locations are being shut down because of idiots completely ruining the place. And with social media weighing in heavily in our lives, people are always actively looking for new places to post from.

I've got a friend that has been doing this for a while so hopefully he's doing it right. I'm sure I'll make mistakes but I'm hoping "be polite, be considerate, and leave it cleaner than you find it" covers most of it. I'll be looking for stuff to read up on. I find reading about what pisses other people off can be a clue. If I'm wrong, I'm sure the folks here will let me know.

Its all about leaving no trace. Don’t drive over and kill plants. Pick up your trash ect. Respect the land so others may enjoy…. And don’t start a wildfire.

AllTrails has an app too, it’s free and I used it a ton before I found trailsoffroad.com. It doesn’t have as many features as trailsoffroad but has enough to get you to the trailhead, stay on the trailhead, and reviews. I use both in conjunction a ton

Who actually are all these people trashing all these places? All I ever hear are people condemning them; they must know they aren’t exactly liked by the 4x4 community..
