Not sure if there is a better place for this
Looked and didn’t see a subforum

want to ask who is running these best priced cases and how?
    (Preferably on a Sherpa rack)

I’ve seen tutorials on mounting, people using an L angle ruler to mark holes to drill
but I’m wondering if one can simply drill into the oval design castings on the back, and pray to the lord those position holes line up with rack rails (only half are adjustable position)

    2. is it better to pick out the foam to leave a thin one-cube-height level? Or rip it all out entirely leaving bare plastic? And maybe shove things in so they don’t slide and rattle? The case is already kinda thin so leaving any foam inside would result in less room.

    3. Why is there pics online of people using 4 locks per box, on all 4 lock holes? Instead of just 1 per box?

I have a bunch of these. Harbor Freight puts them on sale all the time. The lowest I ever paid was $99. The last 3 I bought cost $129. I love the Apache cases.

You need to go there and check them out for yourself if you haven't seen one in person. How you utilize the foam is based on what you're putting in it.

    Yessir.
Picked one up because I found a 25% off code.
Just trying to find another one now, to finish the set with a second.
I give it a matter of time...

Next will come measuring and trying to figure out a good way to put all this stuff on my roof rack.
It was a struggle enough to put Maxtrax mounts; took longer than I thought.

Only like two of the maybe total 5 crossbars on Sherpa rack have a wide range adjust ability.
The rest of them basically just bolt into place without movement.
So coordinating everything, figuring out where to drill, is gonna be tricky

if I say fuck it and drill into those oval markings visible on the back of the Apache case, that could be a simple hole. No measuring needed. But there's a chance those holes, with respect to the certain non-adjustable cross bars on the Sherpa, won't line up.

Another thing I saw once, pic of a truck with extra crossbars added. They sell them separate individually. Not sure the point of that, or if it's wise to do
an extra bar could potentially line up with the case holes better
but that is more money spent on the rack (possibly unnecessarily)
    and harder to wash.
Though, that becomes less of a thing you can even do (wash the roof) once there is things getting added on top blocking it, like cases.

That could be one of the benefits of a Roam 83L case; they have external loops, that Sherpa makes metal brackets to hook up to, connecting to cross bars
but at $300+ a box, versus what's technically $137 at HFT (if promo code present), I don't see the point.

    found this new approach
easy to steal/cut straps that may also restrict outward position mounting of the box, in line with or beyond/past the edge sides

I can't help you in the mounting department. I use the cases for music gear. If I were to buy the same case from SKB who makes almost an identical case it would cost $400'ish. I think I have several of every case size they sell with gear in them.

    I’ll see how it goes

    another idea just hit me

I could find a way to mount one or two Maxtrax per each case lid that would probably look good. Freeing up room so Maxtrax isn’t on the rack itself.

then possibly both cases, farthest outboard.
Leaving a case width section to mount axe and shovel using existing Sherpa quick fist brackets.

already have the Sherpa Maxtrax mount. That bolts onto rack.
It can probably bolt into case lid with longer bolts and holes drilled.

Would mean less coordination of trying to get all the different parts and mounts to play well with each other if the Maxtrax simply is on the case lids.

seems truck will never fit a parking garage again.

What locks is everyone running on Apache 9800's?

I'm thinking use multiple. Keyed alike.
Reputable brand like Brinks or Master Lock
at least 2 per box, maybe on the outside. I've seen people use 4 per box.
But the less keys to keep track of, the better.

One would not be enough as the lid is flexible to where even with little strength it could be easily pried on the opposite end enough for someone to dissapear with stuff

    I got this. 6 bucks for 2.
Gonna return it. To small. Shackle is too short.
Looks nice, but not beefy either.
Trying to get something just big enough, so it doesn't rattle enough
it's really all WalMart had, let alone for a decent price and 'Keyed Alike'. Didn't see anything that caught my eye at Home Depot.
Hopefully it doesn't turn into a game of a bunch of trial and error, buy try fail return repeat

more expensive, maybe there's no way around it
longer shackle, much likelier to fit
    $20 for 4
    2 1/2" shackle

next up, same price, also $20 for 4
    7/8 shackle
I don't think it would fit
    [IMG]

might be time to measure the "clasps" on the Apache box to get a rough idea what size it needs to be, to find online
