So like the title says. My brake booster is bad and pretty sure the diaphragm is blown. Does anyone have any experience with rebuilt boosters? Not mine as the diaphragm is blown. But from a reputable company. While I'm doing that. Anything else I should replace? Thanks like always

If you’re able to keep the mc connected not much, but if you have to end up removing it, maybe making sure any brake lines you might have to remove are not rusted to the point they’ll be a pain to work around

Replace what's bad. The mc is easy to change later, why waste money on things that don't need changing.

you can replace the booster and leave the brake MC hooked up if it is a non ABS truck, I haven't done a booster on an ABS truck so I cant speak to that. There is a seal that seals the projection from the brake master cylinder into the booster... if it tears you will have a vacuum leak that 99% of the techs wont be able to find.

I was going to say if it’s a manual you’re going to probably have to bend the heck out of the clutch line but doesn’t apply here. I removed a booster on an abs manual truck and I don’t think I could have done it without the lines becoming disconnected. If you do have to disconnect a line, use a turkey baster or a pipet to empty the MC and crack open a hard line as low as you can go or even a bleeder valve in the front drivers side caliper and hook up a 1/4” vinyl line from Home Depot from it into a soda bottle so you don’t have brake fluid all over everything.

In my case what ever I break doing the job .

Like dropping the door and breaking the glass .

Snap off two out of the 4 seat bolts .

That was only the last time I changed one .

Is that tear your talking about located on the booster or the mc?

The diaphragm in the booster. It’s what holds air pressure to “boost” the power of your leg in pressing the brake pedal.

So replacing the whole booster will solve that "tear".

Right. I think @Glamisman meant just be careful with the replacement and not tear the diaphragm in the new booster. If you want to test it, just hook up the vacuum hose before connecting the mc but after connecting the brake pedal and make sure you’re engine is running correctly while pumping the brake pedal.

No he is talking about the gasket between the master cylinder and the booster it is metal to metal and without the gasket it will leak!!

Then be all most impossible to find .

It most often gets torn taking things apart

Hmmmm the only gasket on 01-04 with abs is built into the booster itself where the tube that channels the pushrod that contacts the mc. Non abs trucks have another separate gasket outside of the mc between the booster and the mc. Which are you guys talking about?

Does anyone have any info and experience on remanufactured boosters? $650 is pretty pricey for a new one.
