Need to see better pics. And maybe circle the spot that you see cracking.

From your pic that looks like a scratch.

isn't this one of the reasons those bed supports are so popular?

I get the bed stiffener thing. But shouldn’t Toyota cover this under warranty ?

    Can certainly try.

But I would bet they push blame to you for overloading the bed with weight.

It’s pretty common for Tacomas with any weight like a canopy or rack with weight in the bed. I have the cracks as well. Do you have coverage still? It is dumb that a canopy is to much weight, good luck!

Yes. The truck is only two and a half years old. The canopy doesn’t way much. I am thinking it has more to do with flexing off-road.

They all crack like that if you haul or wheel remotely hard.

Whatever you do, if you try to get this warrantied do NOT say this to Toyota. They would probably deny the claim!

That’s the frustrating part. These trucks are designed to go off-road. They should handle a mild trails.

Torque = force multiplied by distance. Force is weight of the canopy, distance is height of the canopy, and the shape of the canopy shifts "center of mass" upward making the final effect worse.

That is basic physics. I have alway planned to get bed stiffeners if I ever I mounted things that flex the sides of the bed, based only on reading this forum.

If they don’t warranty it, I’d say stop drill the crack and add bed stiffeners. I agree a canopy and some off roading shouldn’t crack a bed, but I added stiffeners to my bed before the canopy went on just as an insurance policy.

Sure, welding is doable. The best fix is to stop drill the end of the crack, generally 0.25” then, as others have stated, bed stiffeners are the long term fix.

    None
Or too large an object that was forced in the bed to fit.
